I have a 2015 E350 S4 Wagon and am still learning about it. I saw that there is a "dog fence" that pulls up out of the same bar that houses the pull out cover behind the back seat. I pulled the fence up and hooked it into the receptacles directly above it. Nice!

Then I noticed the same type of receptacle just behind the front seats. What is the purpose of this one? (see attached photo with "dog fence" receptacle circled and the other receptacle behind the front seats)

A similar mesh screen can be attached there as an accessory for when the rear seats are folded down.

Maybe, but I have not been able to locate one. I think you may be wrong (see following post)
It's the same cargo/pet screen. The front bracket is for when you have the second row seats folded down.

Don't you have the owner's manual? If not, it's available online at MBUSA.com Scroll to the bottom of home page.

I discovered what these additional receptacles are for and how to use them today. The cargo cover assembly can be removed and attached (slide in place) the rear seat when it is in the DOWN position. When the cargo cover assembly is mounted in this way the "dog fence" can be extended and attached to these receptacles. So, is your dog is to large for the rear with the back seat folded up you can use this alternate "dog fence" position with the back seat folded down. See accompanying photos...
