Now that I look at the pic, I'm thinking maybe it connects to the white thing above it. I will look at it when it's light out tomorrow.
(I had my wife take the pic, since my hands were very dirty. She must've been at the right angle to see the white thing...)

The "white thing" looks right, it's the connection for HVAC door control.

if you refear to the black hose, i think it is for the car headlamp motor (0-3 settings near main headlamp power in cabin) and it goes from there to the headlamp unit

You're correct. It connects to the white connector you noticed in the photo. It does not have any fastener at all.
