There's an archaic pulse code diagnostic system. I guess this is an attachment for it.

Edit:
And the plug looks like my w124 wagon plug, not the plug in the r107 cars I've seen (which has fewer pins).

I am going to guess this is for stand alone testing of a ECU. cushjbc had a similar looking box for djet testing

No. Not for d-jet. I think this arrived around 1980, after the end of d-jet stuff. There's a recent thread (or posts) in the 107 forum on the tool and information was provided by @rowdie and others. I know the 1981 380slc I parted had a port, as do all 560sl cars. There just aren't nearly as many pins as in the ebay listing.

Edit:
I'm sorry. I was looking at the port connection which looks like it's just the port where the cable links to the box. I was assuming that was to hook to the car where later r107 and other models like w124 have round diagnostic ports.

I can see now that the long section looks like it will connect to the ECU of maybe a d-jet or other ecu units.

I'm Sorry about all my comments here. You can ignore them.

Its a breakout box. Plug it in between your computer and wire harness and and you can check voltage for each pin at the connector. By plugin your volt meter into one of those ports. Not sure what models it works for but if your computer plug looks like those it will work. That might be the same as the main computer for the 560SL or other 107's. The one under the passenger side carpets.

A good tool to have if you need it.
