What is the best repair manual?

I'm new to the forum and a relatively new owner - got a 1989 560 SL in November. My husband and I have 3 Corvettes, but I've always wanted a Mercedes and I jumped at this one when we found it. Anyway, I know that we will be doing a lot of the work and wondered which one you all thought is the best. Thanks

A lot of people seem to prefer the genuine factory engine manual and the body manual.

Keep your eyes peeled on Ebay as they turn up occasionally.

mattley,
Congrats on the new addition!

I agree with A&L's300SL comment about the paper manuals if you can find them. In the interim to get started with the car, you can get an MB 107 Maintenance and Service CD direct from Mercedes. These were selling recently for around $20, and while not as complete as the paper manual series from which the CD's were made, it will certainly aquaint you with the car and it's systems.

Use this part number and contact the
Literature Department at the number below: QL-6515-5604-02

1-800-FOR-MERCedes (1-800-367-6372).

You can also go to www.mbusa.com to 'register' yourself and your car's VIN + other goodies they have in the Classics section. Have fun with your new toy!

Get a factory CD or the factory manual!!! It will help out soooo much. I am dealing with a Haynes (came in the trunk of the car)... they don't even call tstuff the same name. it sux :(..

really... get the CD/ or manual... :)
My first choice would NOT be the CD. It's good to have in addition to the hard copy.
TMC Publications online. Carries all the 107 paper manuals.
Thanks for all the info - I really appreciate it.
Yes, the Mercedes paper manuals are hard to find!
Does anyone know if the Mercedes V8 engine manual for the M117.96(5.0) would be applicable to the 5.6 V8 in the 560SL? I understand that these two engines are essentially the same design. Date of manual is 1989. Thanks.
