Be interesting to know whats being done to all the R107s on here.
Lets post a comment here when you do something each day so we will know what you are up to.

TODAY, I washed, detailed, and vacuum the interior on both Angel (380SL) and Sunshine (560SL) this morning.
Also installed Paracord to use as an emergency pull cord to open the Soft Top cover if it gets stuck.

Not ALL today but off and on over the past several weekends and an hour or two here and there where I could.

Replaced antenna grommet that crumbled last time I hit it with the power washer. While I was there, removed, cleaned and lubricated Hirschmann antenna unit. Gears and internals all in really good shape, just a little dry. Cleaned up the antenna itself with some 0000 steel wool and lubricated as well.

Replaced all rear lights to LEDs. This started with a failed safety inspection where my license plate lights weren’t working. Solved my problem of where I had a bulb out from dashboard warning light.

Replaced both A-pillar seals. Not sealing well and weather cracked. What a PITA! Shout out to anyone that does this for a living. I’d much rather rebuild my entire fuel system again, UGH! I hope the seals on the hard top are easier… next project before hard top goes back on for the winter.

Replaced badly yellowed wiper fluid reservoir and replaced gaskets, seals and the pump. Replaced all washer fluid lines and cleaned and re-aimed ‘squirters’. Not that I’ll drive the ‘Ole Girl ‘in the rain on purpose…

I think the plow/spoiler was a factory option that model year.

And I think the low hanging muffler was a traction control option.

I broke the nipple off of my cold start injector.

I don't recommend this they are near unobtanium and expensive.
I will use down time to replace my injector seals.

I would look for used. Someone here may even have one. I wouldn't think there is much demand for those.

Front subframe mounts and engine mounts. Front springs are out, lower control arms dropped for refurb, so good time to have a go at all of it.

I think I messed up something while putting trans and engine together. There was some sort of grinding noise and now starter won’t engage. I guess it’s time to drop the tranny and put it back together again. Hopefully it’s just a starter or flywheel..

I put the ShearComfort seat covers on today, and I’m about to take them for a test drive. They’re a tiny bit of a struggle with the seats installed, especially the inner strap along the console. I can’t get my fingers in there and can’t stuff the strap/hook down under the seat. Aside from that, the fit is good, and I’m sure my butt will thank me.

I guess I should start to stock up on spare parts. Plus invest in a new spare tire. I’m starting to think seriously about doing the entire trip. It would be close to the top of the list of foolhardy things I’ve done, especially considering I haven’t fully gone through the car regarding preventative maintenance items. But hey, what better way to wring things out.

I'm pondering on selling one of my R107s so I can concentrate on the one.
Not sure if should sell the 190k mile 1986 560SL, or the 48K mile 1983 380SL.
I know more about the KE-Jetronic than the K-Jetronic, and I have tinkered on the 560SL much more.
I feel like I am more attached to the 560SL because of all the work I have done on it, but I've owned the 380SL since new.
Having two R107s is like burning the candle at both ends ... too much for an old man like me

Or keep both.

Drive one every where every day.....live dangerously..... Park at Walmart.

Keep one nice.

I was ready for my previous long trips. I did a big maintenance renewal in 2007. Shit....that was 16 years ago!

This upcoming trip is giving me a butterfly stomach.

Hmmm that's a good dilemma to have Carl! Interesting that you're more attached totl the 560,Id have expected the umbilical cord would be stronger with the 380 given you owned her from new... If all things were equal I'd hold on to the the 380, but it sounds like you've a few reasons to consider the alternative approach. It's a pickle, no doubt about it!

I find that these are really necessary in the summer with the top down. I used ComfySheep semi-custom covers on my car.

Speaking of parking at Walmart, or any shopping center for that matter: Do you ever park way the F out in the lot - where no other cars are to avoid door dings? Then come back later and there's some POS car parked a foot away from yours.
