The tensioner handles the tension on the timing chain - there is nothing to adjust.

I removed the tensioner first before removing the sprockets. I have very little to zero slack with the tensioner in and I can't image it being possible to remove the sprockets with it.

Make sure when you remove the sprockets to keep tension on the chain by using a bungee cord connected to the hood. I did one side at a time - i.e. I didn't remove both sprockets at the same time.

Are you also replacing the sprockets? A pair is about $60 and you have all of the labor done anyway...

Replaced the fuel sender seal. Hopefully that will take care of the fuel smell. Also I looked into the tank for the first time - no sludge in my limited view. Andy

Did you replace the fuel cap. That's the problem with fuel smells 90% of the time.
The first thing I did was replace the seal on the cap because I wanted to keep the original cap. It's made it very hard to get on and off. But no hiss. I then replaced all hoses in the engine bay. Now this. If I still have a problem I will do the expansion tank hoses next followed by the filler tube seal.

Andy, I had a look at the engine manual! Looks like on USA 73&74 the vapors, after passing through the vent valve, are directed to the engine for burning. Section 47-800.
Thanks Graham - I have printed that section off to study it. It seems that section does not exist in the 1977 version of the factory service manual - weird. Andy

Every time I get into the car I am staring at the scuffed MB logo in the center of the steering wheel. I didn't want to pay $40 for a new one, so I used wet/dry sandpaper up to 1500 grit followed by Meguiar's Clear Plastic Polish.

3D printed a new grommet for the door locks vacuum supply tank. Yeah, I could have bought a new one from the dealer but I would have to wait probably a week and traipse down there to get it. One place I checked online wanted $17 for shipping, LOL. I already had everything I needed to print one.

It's not perfect, there is a very slow vac leak, but should be good enough to lock the doors after driving at least.

Print using TPU with 50% infill. Push the new hose all the way through the grommet before installing in the tank.

Not very exciting but the wires for the glove box light connector had fallen apart and a PO had simply wrapped them in electrical tape and stuffed it in the dashboard. I repaired the connections using some crimp connectors and spare wire. Andy

Note that the video shows different pods to mine - the early cars with the manual climate control like mine just have two large ones, one on each side. Andy

Today I took my car on the freeway for the first time (up to 80MPH, top down). Drove beautifully. The engine even ran cooler than usual because my car seems to like to keep movin'. :D :D Andy

Top down? Where are you located?
We got another 8" of snow today on top of the 18" we got last week and we're expecting more tomorrow and snow all day Thursday. Ugh.
Southern Arizona. The flip side is when you are enjoying your car in the late spring, summer and early fall it is too hot here for top down or even to work on it much. Andy

I found them on fleabay. The photos looked pretty good, but there was some either deterioration/erosion or maybe harmless debris. I took a chance at $185 and turns out it was just debris, which I’ve already dusted away, and they look absolutely mint! I’m feeling pretty lucky.
I’d like nothing more this weekend than to replace my non-OEMs but have family obligations. Hopefully next week I can install them. Gives me a reason to look forward to Monday 👍
Nice! You've got to puzzle over fleabay sellers that don't clean items before taking the pics! Andy

Well, I sold it today, or should I say someone made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. Person said they’d been looking for a car like mine for 30 years...didn’t make sense to me either, these are readily available but no matter his cash was more than good! I refused his first few offers over a period of about two months but the last one was a clincher, couldn’t refuse it. Well what now you ask...I’m not sure but this money is burning a hole in my pocket!🤯
Hi Hijak,

I will be sorry to see you leave this section of the forum if you don't get another R107. I have to ask though - did you include your 1974 owner's manual in the sale of your car?

Finally finished restoring the climate console. I took everything apart and exposed the horrors 11 months ago when almost nothing was functional. Work done:

- replaced all light bulbs
- disassembled and cleaned everything
- 3D printed blower switch holder
- 3D printed slider lamp holder
- fixed blower switch
- tested CC switch
- replaced air flap vacuum pods
- replaced dodgy DIY radio wiring with the correct Becker connectors and removed old duct tape
- swapped broken AC controller for custom controller
- installed cigar lighter
- repainted ashtray surround
- installed missing hardware (thanks @rcrmonte3)
- fixed AC knob incorrect arrow alignment
- fixed blower knob number ring connection
