Hello All:

This is a suggestion to create a 'Sticky' thread, like the one over on the w210 (E-Class Sedans - Wagons), for owners to share their latest updates. To quote from Raymond, the moderator there who started this idea:

"This thread was created to elicit quick report of TLC or modification not
necessarily worthy of a thread, but simply an opportunity for us to highlight
something, e.g. wash, new shoes, wiper blade, seat conditioner, etc
. So, let's
brag or share, folks"

It's a cool thing to do but will really work better if the moderators agree to 'Sticky' this Thread.

Can I get an Amen ?

OK, I'll go first....

On our 2002 ML 500, replaced the original front shocks

The old ones were factory supplied KYB's with MB pn on them.

Installed the Excel G KYB oe part: KG-349226

New ones have tamed the front end 'bounce' admirably.

Will tow with confidence now !

Also cut 'Upper Shock Bolt Access Port' on the inner fender liner, now allowing nice 'Top Bolt' access from wheelwell - it's too tight on V-8 beside the engine.

Will come in handy when job is required again.

Looks pretty 'factory', imho.

Today I change my water pump, I notice it had a slight wobble so that was warning enough for me.
Did an engine oil and filter change. Also did a transmission fluid flush. Have done top and bottom radiator hoses and replaced the coolant temp sensor. Because I broke It when I was cleaning the gasket grove. It was very brittle after 17 years of being 80c every day of its life. Replaced the coolant as well obviously. My next job is inner and outer tie rod ends. Might leave that for next weekend.

Just replaced original wiper fluid reservoir with new larger tank, what a PITA. Need to loosen the fuse box to install.

Just wanted ask, I don't see wobble or any coolant leak, would you suggest to replace water pump/upper & lower hoses and coolant sensor as preventative maintenance?
Then, what about the fan clutch & thermostat? All original in great working condition.

99ML320 with 211k miles, above mentioned are all original(I'm original owner).

I had mine in storage for a month because I needed the garage space to work on my Z. Just brought the truck back in yesterday - I guess bringing Hammer back home is one good thing I did for the truck. I had trouble starting the first time - I have noticed this since I replaced the OEM battery with Interstates in Oct. 2015. I like Interstate batteries and have used them successfully in the past in different vehicles. I just don't believe they work as good as OEM for my ML.

Mine were also original, just thought ide do them while all that was out. I did the top hose a while back. If your pumps ok I wouldn't be to concerned. Inside the pump area is like new. Once the pump was off turning it by hand it's loose then tight.

Well, I guess just going to do the upper & lower hoses, thanks for your opinion.

Replaced wipers with silblade wipers. Really nice, they actually last a while, much longer than rubber ones.

Replaced center console switch yet again. Need to order another to put on the shelf.

Am starting to suspect that I might have to replace the harmonic balancer.

sparky, 211k are a LOT of miles.....No leaks or wobble is good. It means you are not under pressure to replace things. But, buy all that you mentioned, pump, upper & lower hoses, thermostat, clutch, temp sensor & replace. You don't want to be stuck on the road.......

Thanks for your input, Art. Yes, any of them fails, I'll be stuck, mostly at middle of nowhere, no cell phone signal, on Saturday afternoon. Exactly that happened in Smokey Mountains on Saturday afternoon. Had to ask my wife to hitch a ride to civilized area where a pay-phone(anyone knows what that is?) is located. I'll think it over, keeping your advice in mind.

One of the more recent additions....

One of the more recent upgrades to our ML500 is the LED Daytime running lights.

They're a nice visual upgrade for road visibility.

Not hard to hook up: I just connected them into the power wire for the Amber front parking lights.

The front 'Bull Bar' was installed to protect the vulnerable front plastic fascia.

Thanks - David in East Texas :smile

Went through and change every vacuum line I could find today. Found one with a crack right at the back of the engine off the EGR valve. Which was causing a rough idle. Also replaced the one on the bottom of the intake.

How did you replace the one bottom of the intake?
I assume you're referring this one shown below(intake is upside down), many folks here have said it is almost impossible to replace, if not impossible.

The same line in my ML320 so brittle, literally broke into pieces when I squeezed it lightly. Not sure how my indy mechanic fixed it while replacing secondary air injection pump above. He wouldn't tell me how saying it's his trade secret, I trusted him 100%, wish I'm still living close to him.

Yes that's the one. Andy posted a link to new ones a couple of weeks ago. But it needs to be disassembled to install it from the inside. What I did was use a vacuum hose butt joiner and cut the old hose off about 3mm from the casting. Then I used a small 1/4 drive deep socket and pressed it in. Then slipped the new hose on and used a couple of drops of loctite glue to fix it permanently. Not much of a secret really lol. I used a bit over a metre of vacuum hose replacing them all.
