what does this sensor do?

hi all,

wondering what the 3 pin coolant sensor does that's near the 1 pin coolant senosor for the dash on a 86 420 sel...i've looked in the CIS section and cooling section of my manual but it doesn't mention it anywhere ...the part # is 0065454524
