When I remove the panel underneath the glove box, this cable hangs down. I thought it may be an antenna connection of some sort, but I pulled the radio this weekend, and it all seems to be put together just fine. I'm sure someone out there knows what it is and if it should be plugged into something.

Ideas?

Mercedes prewired cars of that era for accessories such as a CB or something similar.

I just replaced my stereo 2 weeks ago and removed the glove box. There was nothing like that in my 86. I think dugald is right, it must have gone to some PO installed accessory.

Given the nature of the cable, I would say it was for a CB. Question is Where's the other end. I bet if you looked in area in front part of trunk, you would find it.

My 86 does have it.
I removed a CD changer and an ancient cellphone box installed by the PO in the trunk. I assumed the cable was a remnant from that.

I don't believe that there has ever been a CD changer. PO was my wife's grandmother, and she just wasn't into accessorizing. I think athe prewired CB antenna theory is probably the best bet, which doesn't help my non-existent FM reception. Back to the drawing board...

FOR GOD'S SAKE ..........DON'T TOUCH IT.

Unless, of course you want to eject your Mother in Law.

I swear..... it works....unfortunately only as far as the trunk.

That's a male PL-259 radio connector. It could be used for CB or mobile phone antenna connection. Or perhaps hooking up the mother-in-law ejector seat...
