after a 6 year stint in the military (4 Marines/ 2 in Navy)..I started working in the financial services industry 20 ish years ago...my partner and I finally got off the wirehouse/bank model and started our own wealth mgt. firm.......no, we didnt feed Bernie Madoff.. though we actually warned one client whose family had a few million with him five yrs ago...that there were obvious "conflicts of interest"/ red flags,...and yes...we raised some cash overall back in sept....but alas not quite enough though.......

Retired after 38 years with the federal government, my last 27 years with the Dept. of Energy (Portland, OR). I was fortunate to get my 2 years of military (US Army/Viet Nam/machine gunner) included in my length of service enabling me to retire at 57. I did computer graphics, the last few years specializing in photo simulations, showing new substations, transmission line projects, etc. and their impact on the environment (mostly for public meetings). I still do contract work for my last employer.
The MB was a retirement gift to myself.. I spend most
summers, "working the land", in my home town of Las Vegas, NM. I have my 1981 chevy truck, several inherited properties and my party shack (Breckenridge travel trailer). Life is good!! When not in NM or OR I'm usually headed to Las Vegas, NV where I grew up from the age 3 (till I left in '77). Most of my family still live in the Las Vegas/Henderson area. Golf, fishing, landscaping work keeps me busy.
2 kids in college, daughter at Portland State and working full time, son at U of Oregon, summer work refereeing soccer games and spending my retirement $$ (went to Germany and Holland last year, just got back from spring break in Phoenix).

On thing for sure the type of owner is vastly different than the original owner.amd is likely to continue to change. I definately disagree about the nerds, unless you are talking about the original owners. All the nerds I know couldn't grab their butt with both hands. Besides most of them like Volvo's

Umm... Don't say that. 'cauz I'm in. Beer is cheaper than diesel.
Hell- even gas! Charters are expensive around here. My cousin is a captain in R.I., used to have has own charter party boat, now just freelances. Lots of good times out on the water. My sister and her husband are in N.C., and are avid sailors. Maybe on my next visit we'll arrange a 107 fishing trip!

They're in the greater Raleigh-Durham area, but they own quite a bit of coastal property where they keep the boat.

Threads always twist around; this one'll get back on track.

That's where I grew up (late 60s-late 70s)...I'm about an hour south of there now...

I mentioned Oriental because that's where just about everybody that sails (doesn't just use the boat as a dock queen) does so...on the mouth of the Neuse River where it opens in the Pamilco sound. Deep water (rare for coastal NC)....lotsa gunk holes and weekend trips (Okracoke, Cape Lookout, Beaufort...that's where we are). I used to do alot of sailing (and hope to again, if I can ever figure out how to spell retire).

Any other sailing would most likely be offshore, as the ICW is sooooooo narrow and shallow.
