I've been doing some thinking about this lately. I ordered my 05' C230k sport sedan and should take delivery end of march. but for awhile now, i've really wanted a convertible. so instead of picking up the C, i've been thinking about picking up a used SL500 or CLK430 vert. what do u guys think about that? i'd love to get a new SL500 or Porsche 4S vert but an investment i've just gotten into has locked up alot of money for the next 12 months. beginning this winter, i'll be working about 4 or 5 months down in florida out of my house in royal palm beach and the rest of the year here in NY so i'd be able to use the droptop pretty much all year round.

if you could afford it go for it man! i bought my c230 sedan because i liked the car and couldnt afford the c55. if i had a choice between either an older sl (new body style) or a new c230 kompressor sedan i would without a doubt go for the sl. i think anyone would. if you got the cash then go for it man! let nothing hold you back from what you want!

well it wouldn't be the current body style SL, probably a 99' or 00'. that's what i'm curious about. what you take a current style C class or previous style SL or CLK?
i dont think a c will ever compare to an sl regardless of age but personally i think the clk is definatly a girls car. its up to you man. do you want a new car with a warrenty and you wont have to worry about another owners abuse or do you want a more flashy on the outside car with possible abuse from previous owners and who knows about the warrenty. lots of stuff to weigh man. personally i would get the new c as it is a really nice car and fix it up. new rims, tint, etc. the bare essentials. it will look way nice plus then you will have extra cash to blow (gas is less expensive in the c + insurance is less + im sure your payment will be less). hope my opinion helps but remember it is only my opinion. do what makes you most happy. it is your money and no one can tell you what to do with it.
the sl (older body style, cant say for the newer) does not feal as comfortable as the new c. they do however have way more power than the c (not like the sl will own the road or anything) plus possible convertable/hardtop, which ever you prefer. my family has an older model sl500 which i occasionally drive and i prefer driving my c because my c is stick and the stuff i have done to it makes the car more personalized i guess. i dont have much done to the car but it makes me happy. another thing to consider is what are you buying the car for. the older sl doesnt feal like an everyday driver to me. once again just my opinion.
I don't think you can really compare the two cars... They are so different.
I would go for the W208 CLK. I have owned one, and it is a beautiful car, and much more affordable to maintain than a SL.
Simple...
Get what you really want! [:)]
I agree with brat
Well now i'm officially confused. Friend of mine called me and said "you have to take a look at this car"! so i did and although it's not a vert, it was a 2001 CLK430 coupe. I have to say that I really fell in love with this car. It's Obsidian Black with Black leather, basically every option, heated seats, xenons, power rear sunshade, bose, navigation. Paint and interior is immaculate and the car has 45,000 miles on it. Anyone know how reliable these cars are? My dad's gonna run the VIN through DMV tomorrow and see if any claims come back on it. That color is really gorgeous. Like a dark blue with a hint of charcoal in it. i loved it. guy's asking $27k for it and i'm really thinking about pulling the trigger on it.
Even though you ask your friends their opinion, you pretty much know what you want / what you should do. I always do that... and make my friends mad because I ask thier opinion, but I don't listen. I follow my heart![:I] But I just want to make sure my decision is right. (Oh well... I don't listen their opinion most of the time, so I am always right!)

Get what you want and you will be happy!!!

Decision Decision Decision... Enjoy thinking hard! [:D]
very true lilbrat. i've found what i want. 02' CLK430 convertible, triple black, navigation, xenons, wind deflector, heated seats, pretty much everything. just working out the numbers. has 27,000 miles on it and the car is absolutely flawless. can't find a scratch or nick on it. we'll see what happens. so far everything looks like it's a go as long as the VIN comes back clean. was gonna keep the BMW so i had a car with some balls since the C230 is abit sluggish, but with the CLK430, i think powerwise it will be sufficient. still not as quick as the 330, but has much better torque.
