Good on you doing the oil change, easy enough job if you are set up. Reset the service indicator each time you do it.

a169 service reset

If you are like me and have the low beam lights on all the time, carry spare H7 bulbs with you. After the first massively fumbling attempts at changing them you can get quite quick at replacing them. Helps if you have a small mirror at hand.

Today I changed the oil in my B200 Turbo. Prior to doing the change, I needed to purchase a 27 mm socket for the filter as the largest my nephew had was 23 mm (I am sure others had to purchase one too). I used Mobil 1 Synthetic 0W40 which will be my go to oil moving forward. My Service A is still 10000 km away according to the OBC. Is there a need to update anything in the OBC regarding the oil change?

Total coincidence but after I drove off following the oil change, my left low beam stopped working. I plan on picking up this H7 from Canadian Tire:

I'll be reviewing the entries as to how to swap out the defective with a new bulb.

Took the vehicle to the shop to put on winter tires. For some reason they set the fronts at 30 PSI and the rears to 33 PSI. I am thinking they should be the same. From what I read , tire pressures should be higher for winter tires:

So I am thinking I should change the fronts to be 33 PSI. Thoughts are welcome.

Could you post some of what you've read on winter tire pressures as I would have thought that OE pressure would be the best for a perfect contact patch in the winter?

My fuel cap shows 29 and 29 psi for normal loads with 205/55 16" ......................and max load shows your 30 front and 33 rear (as if you were heavily loaded in the rear).

There was a link in my previous post which was one of the references. I guess the mindset is that with tire pressure dropping 1-2 PSI with every drop in 10 degree Celsius temperature, winter tires should be set a slightly higher PSI value.
I am thinking 30 or 31 PSI would be ideal for the cold weather period.

Tire pressure will drop as the true Canadian deep winter temps drop. I would just adjust a few times during the winter but still remain at the recommended tire pressure.

The B 200 went in yesterday for its 320K km service. Planned scope of work:

  • new ball joint in RF suspension
  • new spark plugs
  • new serpentine belt
  • new battery
  • new catalyst mounting strap
  • new LR caliper,
  • new engine & transmission mounts
  • new transaxle oil
But I got a few photos from the Mercedes dealer today: the B200 brakes are needing more work than planned: backing plates are rusted out where the springs attach and parking brake shoes shredded as a result. So another $550 to replace all that. It's all good; I consider it a mid-life refit at 320,000 km.

I had wondered why I had to do such a major adjustment to the handbrake cable recently! heh

Got the car back this evening, after a week extra in the shop due to the unexpected parts being needed.

General condition is very good although it was noted that one of the front struts is going to need replacement in the foreseeable future so that means two, really. Its damping is actually just fine right now and so I'll wait until it's really necessary before queuing that one up. I'll probably do the rear shocks at the same time, whenever that ends up being, assuming the rest of the car is still looking long-lived.

With the replaced ball joint and drop links for the anti-roll bar installed the car feels very tight again and much, much smoother on rough roads.

The biggest improvement in some ways is that with the new engine and transmission mounts, the clutch take up is SO smooth now, just like a new car. Before, the engine was rocking and rolling all over the place and there were extra vibrations in the cabin when the broken mounts had the weight resting on the metal safety cage that surrounds them.

Not an inexpensive series of repairs but better than the alternative of chucking 50 grand I don't have at a new car I don't like or want

The old B looks perfect...!...and many more years of use...

Way back you also talked about a new Peugeot in 2023....Are you still planning for that eventuality ? Would an importer still do that for you ?

The Chrysler acquisition by PSA has likely permanently scrubbed the Peugeot re-entry to Canada and USA. So that saved me the hassle of being tempted by a new one. Plus, working from home for the past two years and the three+ to come, I don't commute anymore so my existing cars should last longer.

I agree..the OE on our B is long lived indeed. Still have my OE from the fall of 05 and it's still holding at 12.4 v..and shows no signs of dying. I've changed the B battery a long time ago but this OE is still getting daily use elsewhere. Car batteries are not "supposed" to operate normally after this many years. I even used it in the A6 after removing it from the B years before.

The CEL came on in Nanaimo at -7 degrees C, no drivability problems were noted. I figured it was the fuel vapour purge valve freezing up and P0441 confirmed it. Cleared with my ScanGauge II that I keep in the smart back at home - as you can see - but the code/CEL may come back as long as it stays cold here in the banana belt.

I bought a new valve a few years back from Germany, which I could install at any time....but not now. Besides, I think the charcoal canister must have some water vapour in it, in which case, any valve would probably freeze up.

This is the second time in 14 years and 320,400 km that the CEL has illuminated, and it was the same code both times.

Decided after looking at Mike's above brake work, to have a look at mine.

They just needed a cleaning up and a touch of lube on the key moving parts. No parts changed but with more winters in and much less mileage. Dealer installed new rear parts in ~ 2009 . Disks were just off warranty at 4 years + a bit, so dealer charged me $35 back then.(their cost perhaps..) They changed all caliper supports at that time for free as there was a rattling coming from a bit too much play in them.

Here are yesterday's photos of the parts wire brushed a bit and then lubed and reinstalled. Some of the OE parts still look like new. I've lubed with anti-seize in the past (silver colour) and now just added a touch of HHS 2000 on the adjustment wheel and moving parts. A sanding of the rear disks gets them back to shiny until the next rain. That rear set of pads shows where the rust sits on them. That will disappear with steady breaking. I don't go for sparking clean on any calipers. Too much sand and gravel summer roads up here.
Brakes are "Good to GO" for the next good while.

The first photo shows the handbrake cable junction near the rears. Looks great and the handbrake works well...untouched and as new.

I do try to get most salt residue washed off whenever we get a thaw. Seems to work well for me.
