that is a nice blue color. I am probably installing next week a 16"x24" x1" parallel condensor as part of switching to 134a (long story). If all works out, will be describing it soon.

Engine looking good now I think, especially for a car that lives outside and sees full winter use.
Obviously I cannot compete with some of the stunning ones I see over the pond!

actually, it is quite good looking. But, am I the only one who can't figure out what that bright red canister is in front of the nicely white windscreen reservoir? Or curious?

I'll join the party. I was curious so I did a little hunting around the internet. I found a couple other W126 engine bay pics with a similar fitting and one was clear enough to identify 'Scorpion 757' (?) logo on the top of it. There is a Scorpion brand of aftermarket car alarms and immobilisers, so that's probably what it is.

Oh, yes it's a defunct alarm box. I've not seen this Becker system you guys in the US seem to have.
I've seen plenty of after market ones like this though.

Yesterday, I woke up to a stone cold dead battery. My ancient charger made funny clicks. My neighbor's charger wouldn't engage to charge. Googled "dead battery, no charge" and got Kent's (Mercedes Source) one minute video which said that, when modern battery chargers won't charge, you need to trickle charge for an hour or two with a good battery. That apparently gives modern chargers something to work with. It worked, left it overnight. Good as new this am. Most of y'all probably know this, but I pass it on just in case.

Oh, and the cause of the dead battery was that one of the wires on my disconnected lock vacuum pump had lost its electric tape hoodie and made contact with chassis. My own fault and I suspected what it was right away. Another of those things where I can't blame anybody else. Hate that.

Oil leaking from the filler cap (apparently this is common) so I replaced the old rock-hard seal with a new MB one. Fits tight but still leaked.
Replaced the OEM metal cap with a new plastic one and now no leaks.
Not too keen on the looks, but a cheap fix.

Took her to the alignment shop to get her aligned and the A/C charged. The alignment went well, the exception being the shop had to use the W220 for the base instead of the W126 because the 1985 modules have been dropped from the software. I’ll check the specs later for differences. Before I left I noticed the pipes were black inside, I always worried she was too rich since my frequency valve won’t operate properly and is disconnected. But when I got there there was no deposits at all and the very edge were white to light gray, need to get a wide band to see. The car ran nice very smooth on the highway had a little vibration around 70 MPH but went away at 80 Mph. The driver side window quit working I suspect a fuse like last time most probably the window motor is starting to drag a bit and probably needs a new one. The last is the A/C still leaks, under the dash. So it’s most likely a o-ring got damaged or the evaporator is leaking, it’s the only thing I didn’t replace the last time I had the dash off. It’s starting to get a little cooler so it should be easier this time.

Orange / red antifreeze ??? please tell me that is not DexCool

Scratch that, I went farther back and read up. My antifreeze at the moment also is the yellow stuff, and since it's good enough for a Mercedes I also put it in my S10 when I replaced the radiator and heater core

do you think there will be any clearance issue ? with 225/55 ?
You might get away with 225/55s. Mine is lowered and SLS and when I put tires on my Penta lookalikes I initially mounted 225/60/16s (wasn't thinking that day) even with rolled front fenders they scrubbed on bumps SOOOO I had 225/50/16s put up front and no more scrubbing. I've been on several short runs of 200 mile round trips and a couple of 800 mile weekend jaunts over all types of roads (except dirt) not one scrub and the car G L I D E S down the road

I bought 225/50/16 front and 245/50/16 rear, I didn't know its that much differences the front side wall much smaller than the rear, I thought nobody will notice, but its almost an inch difference.

OH I had what I considered a horribly UGLY set of wheels on my coupe when I bought her, I looked beyond that problem and focused on the car, the tires were 235/45/17s. Not knowing how long it would be until I found a more suitable set of wheels I bought new tires which improved the ride immensely. These tires ended up on Karen's Suzuki SX4 Sport Sedan

I've got a 15 hole stock wheel as a spare, I doubt it has spent much time on the road

I sent this box of bits with my 500 for the driveshaft vibration repair appointment for Monday. SGF flex discs and 'everything in between'.
Packing materials Rectangle Red Material property Cuisine
Monday morning, the shop called telling me the U-joint at the spline in the driveshaft had failed & was 'notchy'.
This was a problem as they could not source the replacement parts. Being a 'hands on' guy I went up & inspected it & yup, 'twas.....
Apparently, this is one scenario flex discs, center bearing/cage etal would not solve...

As I saw, the u-joint is, of course, swedged into position at manufacture. In addition, it being a Euro car here in USA, for all intents & purposes, no parts readily available [cannot even look 'em up as most catalogs turn a blind eye to such.
After some discussion & research, there seemed no driveshaft specialists locally, so I loaded the shaft into my V. SUV and headed the 45 miles south
to a prominent southern NH driveline specialist shop where found my only avenue available was to have one custom made by a driveshaft company in Virginia, from their Gen 2 SEC [US spec.] patterns.
I was also given back my original shaft, Febi-Bilstein center bearing, bearing support, MB boots/sleeves kit, Corteco D/shaft centering bushings as the replacement comes with all that lot installed.
Bummer, what needed I know, and definitely not something I wanted to hear.

The new shaft will be delivered north to the car sometime between today [Sept, 3rd] and the middle of next week, whereupon the work can commence,
once the car can be re-scheduled into the shop's service rotation.
Selfishly, I DO hope this recent hurricane Ida has not affected this overall plan as it rolled through Virginia over the last days...
I'll call the driveshaft shop today to calm my fears.......

Looking forwards, I look towards to having my car smooth on decent strong acceleration sans vibration, as the car starts to pull above 3000, and during manual downshifts from speed. My wife & I have our eye on an upcoming performance driving event early next month. What fun it was last year!
This apparent driveline vibration condition has been the case increasing slightly since 'early days' with me.
As its a 'low mileage' car, flex discs had I thought/planned for.

If the car were here, and not some roughly 100 miles away, I would have had the luxury of conferring on these pages/others as to alternatives to the flat out replacement scenario.

In the past I have read here of others getting u-joints replaced in existing d/shafts, but that avenue seemed not possible here in New England
in a timely fashion given the situation at hand.

So now I have a Euro 500 SEC driveshaft & ancillaries resting in the back of my Volvo..
Looking to the day I can part with this backup set of bits, knowing the new shaft will be 100% A-OK.

If your car is a 2nd gen, and if you are able and brave enoufh to afford it, the UJ and splines should be similar to the latest MB models. I almost considered buying a new propshaft for a W203,W204 or similar, just to have the UJ and splines cut off and welded to my 300SE’s spider ends. Alas, my purse protested, so I had to find 2nd propshafts instead and hope for the best…
