Slownrusty: I agree with luckymike. It's gorgeous! I thought you had a big black ding on your passenger door, but it turned out it was something on my screen....

Another box of bling-bling arrived this week. View attachment 2651520

and I haven’t finished the radio wiring yet😩. How can one run out of wire?
Than I stop by a garden centre

View attachment 2651522

and I couldn’t resist.
Is gardener trying to trip the mechanic again? No, not today.
I’ll have the back speaker wires soldered up and tested first.
Than I’ll take Cliff for a spin.
I just replaced my expansion tank as well as part of my cooling system refresh. You've probably already don it, but be careful putting the plug in the side, if you need to, where the coolant level sensor goes. You've really gotta push the plug in hard. It's gotta seat all the way down before you put the snap ring on the outside to hold it in place. I had to push it in by pushing the tank up against a brick wall....
Its a tight fit indeed...

New thread! New thread!

Gracious. I know you drive this car but it looks like a display piece.
Sure, thing, happy to start a new thread. Let me make some more progress on this and snap some more pictures and I will start a new thread. Thanks!

I picked up my wheels few days ago. I was going to put them on today.
Than looking at the bolts I said no, that can’t be.
I cleaned and painted the bolts instead. I know if I didn’t do it, it would bother me forever.

I’ll have them on the car tomorrow😀

that is a great tool to assist you. from Harbor Freight?
Originally I was going to tape and hang them. That process was taking long time. (First five still have some tape on it.) Than I poke the rest through the cardboard box. 5 minutes later I was done. The best part was that I could spray from all the angles without wasting lots of paint.

For whatever reason one of my four BBS RA's was getting weirdly cloudy and splotchy. Despite my trying, the splotchiness was not coming out. A few days ago I brought the SEC in to have a wash and wax. When I picked her up my weird BBS wheel was back to nice and sexy. I have no idea how they did it because the guy who detailed my car had left for some grub.

Before and then after...

Since it was raining all day here I spend some time on 560SEC project search.
There is something about that pillar less design that I can’t get out of my had every since I first touched it (500SEC) in 1987 at the MB in Nuremberg Germany.
I see nice examples getting harder and harder to find.

I have my second one now and wouldn’t dream of selling it anytime in the near future. I bought at a reasonable price for what it was with a load of history and a receipt from Bruce Mendel, that is to say there was an invoice from him for shipment to the previous owner. I had sellers remorse after selling my 91 560SEC in 2009 but bought this one in 20016 after missing that car. I lucked out because it had genuine amg Penta wheels and euro headlights and indicator lamps, also one touch window circuit installed. After performing all corrective repairs to suspension and oil leaks and installing tri y exhaust manifolds and down pipes and a few other details, the thing drives like a new car with impressive acceleration at any speed. Good luck finding one.

I don't know about detailers but I get grungy looking wheels from brake dust and the last wash I used a well worn and really limp green scrubby pad, only used it on the unpainted lip and they are clean and shiny once again. No pics this time though

After installing the C class electric fan and delete the mechanical one, I tried multiple alternators to see which one can hold the big load from the fan, I tried 140AMP (Custom built) and 150AMP. no luck, the voltage was dropping bellow 11v when fan on full speed, lights on and AC on.
I noticed the W126 alternator is the same for ML55 and E55, I picked 180AMP from the JY and sent it to my alternator guy to custom built 230AMP for me.
The max he can go with the OEM alternator chassis is 150AMP, with the ML one he can go up to 280AMP.
I upgraded the alternator cable also. I somebody wants more details I will write a thread about it.

Soldered the clamps, used heat shrinks at he ends, and wrapped with electrical felt tape

Final result

Boom, 14V with AC, Lights, and fan full speed

Wow 🤩, 230amp. That sounds awful lot for the W126.
What is the rated max. power consumption under full load for your new fan assembly?

50AMP at full speed, the Wrecked C class alternator that I picked the fan from the JY was 200AMP but it was different setting, the height amp will not harm your car since you are not messing around with the regulator (the adjustable ones) the max you can adjust is 14.6V after that you will fry your electronics.
so I have lights, fog lights, AC, 2 electric fans (C class and the stock Aux fan), fuel pump, sensors, radio ... etc
the height AMP's is on demand, it will flow in the circuit when ever you turn something on, the lowest you can go is 10%V from the 14V, after that your engine will drain your battery. and the alternator will quit after a couple of months.

Whoah here. Yes I would like the details but also I see a serpentine belt on your car. So did the M117 change from all those vbelts at one time to serpentine later in the production year? If so please send me a picture of that setup. That is a huge improvement!

Technically Yesterday..

We went to the Palmer Motorsports Park, a private club venue, as part of the Laps with Larz Event put on by the Larz Anderson Antique Auto Museum here in Boston.

My red car, the Euro 500SEC, performed flawlessly throughout the day during the chaperoned sessions morning & afternoon. There were street cars of every stripe imaginable and 'Hot Lap' race cars giving rides during our lunch. Somehow I managed to get in 21 2.3 mile laps in total! Built on the side of a mountain, the track has 14 turns and 509 feet/155M elevation change each lap. What a blast indeed!

There is a slightly cambered right that opens out the further into the turn.. and another two I really liked with steep uphills, one left, the other right, cambered perfectly for foot hard into it while turning in more & more whilst accelerating hard.

We had SUCH a good time with old friends & making new.

I called the Merc shop today to thank them for the suspension mods they did as I'd never had the opportunity to really press the car hard through as many varied conditions at speed.
The Tri-Ys feeding the REMUS rear exhaust section... The H&R springs, Bilstein B8 Sport shocks, the 19mm rear bar, 17" Hammer wheels with sticky summer rubber and drilled/slotted front discs all provided a MOST enjoyable & confidence inspiring experience for us both.

It felt a totally planted and willing partner no matter what I asked of the car.

The experience has had me looking up road race slicks & another set 17" forged wheels.........

Chuffed, completely so!

Malcolm

Malcolm,
There is something about that SEC of yours that fuels my own SEC fever more and more every time I see it.👍👍👍
