Can someone explain what this knob is for next to my ECU behind the battery? 1992 2.6 M103

I also found this one just behind the Abs unit next to the ignition module. Seems like the writing has been wiped off due to age. What is it?

I think the one behind the battery is the R16 resistor that adjusts timing map for fuel type. Not sure what the other one is, but it's near the EZL. Perhaps has similar function.

So you can adjust timing/fuel map 'on the go' basically with these cars? Does anyone have any graphs or numbers showing what the difference in adjustments are?

Search "Mercedes R16 resistor mod" on popular search engines and you'll find more info. US cars do not have the plugs OP has with multiple resistors, just one fixed value.
Found an older thread and read the whole thing, very interesting and something I think I'll definitely try when mine is up and running. Thanks for that 187 (y)
