Hello fellow MB drivers!! I am debating on whether or not to purchase the K&N filter for my 2005 c230k (supercharged I4). I read somewhere that the oil from the K&N was not healthy for the MAF sensor. Do any of you run this filter and how long have you used it?? If not, then what type of filter do you use? Thanks in advance for your reply

You are correct, when you clean the filter with the oil, it is not good for your MAF. The K&N does not fit 100% correctly either. I was thinking about getting one too, but hearing all this made me not get one. I mean anyways what would we get 1hp from it. Here is a good air filter. 2003-2005 Mercedes Benz C230 - Beck Arnley Air Filter

Stock. It filters well, lasts a nice long time and the others don't you any power in the stock airbox. The risk of MAF damage from a K+N is minor, but I'd rather prefer no risk, since the K+N doesn't gain you anything.

I've had the K&N in my 05 for about 2 months now. Ive had one in all my previous cars and wanted to try it out. I've heard about all the maf risks, but didnt think too much of it. Anyways, there is no real gains, intake doesn't get any louder, no real point, except you can clean instead of buy a new one... if the cleaning thing is what you need, then go for it, but if your looking for anything else, id just stick to oem.. ill be switching back soon

On the M271 you will see such a tiny gain as to call it no gain. Search for an old Buellwinkle post about it, I think with the airbox totally off, no restriction at all, there was still only a tiny gain. The M111 with an S/C pulley might be another matter entirely.

Zeet,
what if i have a full exhaust: Kleeman header/downpipe, magnaflow exhaust, renntech pulley kit and powerchip tune, you think the K&N will give me more of a gain??

Greens here on both the SLK and the C. No problems on either, but the SLK "sounds" different with greens vs OEM. C class sounds about the same. Can't say for sure, but didn't really notice a performance difference with the ole seat o' the pants dyno.

Then it might make a difference. You would only know for sure by doing dyno runs. For sure it will sound meaner and filter the air more poorly. Of course it could also throw your custom tune off and result in less power, too. Tough to say. Even if it gives you full benefit it will only be a few HP.
