This may or may not be a problem but I thought I would throw it out there.

a week ago I put my 98 c230 w/52k in the shop to have some minor rust spots repaired. The car was not driven other than in the shop and was kept inside most of the time. I picked the car up today, exactly a week later, drove it home and parked it. 2 hours later I went to start it and it fired then died right away. I tried a second time and same thing. Tried a third and it fired and ran normally. I have not had a chance to drive the car but I have tried to restart it and it starts normally.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like it could be the MAF, ours did similar intermittant work/fail scenario. Start/Die then start and run ok for a while. If it has never been changed consider it as a posibility. Coils can act funny like that too.

Ask the shop if they had to disconnect the Battery. I guess you would know if your radio coded.
