Ok so my Ml320's radio was fading from mono to stereo. First thing I thought was it was a bad ground or faulty radio antenna amp. I checked and redid all grounds plus bought that $115 dollar Antenna amp (OUCH!) from the dealer since i couldnt find one anywhere else. I also bought the radio removal keys. I checked all wires and seems to be fine. Still seems to fade to mono but less now. Could the MCS be faulty?

Also I just ordered the cd changer to RCA adapter thing from Crutchfield. Is this going to work for sure for my 2000 Ml320?

Thank you any help would be great.

Most radios do this whenever the signal level drops. The problem is likely not in the radio itself. Here's what I would do:

1) Verify radio operation by purchasing a cheapo generic FM antenna and plugging it directly into the radio.
2) Clean all connectors and verify continuity.
3) Check antenna (try plugging the generic cheapo into the line before the amp and see if that improves things.)
4) Verify that the antenna amp is receiving power.
5) Visually inspect cables for breaks.

Figured it out!!

So the guy I bought the ML320 from put an aftermarket pioneer 6 disc changer installed, I pulled out the MCS today too look at the antenna wire and there was this gray box that the wire was routed to. I reconnected the antenna directly to the radio and so far so good! no fading. Im guessing that gray box is part of the changer since the changer doesnt sound good at all now. Im just going to leave it disconnected. Thank you for the help!
