I have a tranny issue...(79 300TD auto) Everything runs and shifts smoothly but when "shifting" from, say, park to drive or whatever you can really hear it click very loudly, (yes even over the diesel rumble) at every gear. Now, just to clarify this is when at a standstill and moving the gear lever it makes a loud clicking noise at every stop (P,R,N,D, etc.). Also reverse isn't quite at "R" and drive isn"t quite at "D", I have to often move the lever a bit "aft" to get it into gear. is there an adjustment I can make or what kind of problem am I looking at? Anyone who feels the need to tell me my tranny's about to blow can go elsewhere [B)] I'm not listening, LALALALALALALA.
Thanks for yr time guys,

The white bushings in the shifter linkage might be gone. Cheap to buy somewaht awkward to get at and replace but doable. That would likely account for not lining up with the markings for the different gears.

How many miles on the car. The donuts can grow softer over time and cause some free play in the driveshaft.

Some play can also develope in the rear end. There is a service intervel for changing the oil I think 3 years, can't remember it it is 30K, 32K or 36K.
Takes slightly more then one quart.

She has 280k mi on her, but the tranny filter/fluid was changed recently. I have to look to at my records to see about the rear. Thanks!
