Is the little light bulb that lights the automatic gear selections strictly a dealer item? 84 300 D. It's about 3/4 inch long with a brass base that is half the length. Doesn't look like an item I'm going to find in Denaults or Auto Zone.
Thanks
Pete

I think they're available at the autoparts store. Do a search for "light bulb thread", we have a thread here with information for all bulbs used in the W123 with their cross reference numbers.

I bet you have the #3898, BA7S base lamp. Hard to find....except on eBay. I tried a LED with that base but it does not provide enough light, so I ordered some from eBay. They are enroute so I don't know if they provide more light or not. Should know today or tomorrow.

Google is your friend

Thanks for the responses. I was going to order this bulb from AzAutohaus along with a couple of other bulbs. All were cheap but shipping was $9.00. I checked automotove light bulbs and came up with Syvania OSRAM which is what I can make out on the bulb with my magnifying glass. They even showed dealers for their bulbs and my local Auto Zone, Kraegens, and Pep Boys were all listed. I'll be visiting them tomorrow.

Bulbs

Bulbs for the entire care are availiable from the following. I have replaced 90 percent of the bulbs and had no problem crossing over to bulbs from this site: bulbman.com

Beobee, I can't get anything out of that zip. I keep getting "File is either corrupted or invalid."

Can anyone give me the exact information on that same bulb so I can go pick it up from AutoZone or somewhere else?

There are two different bulbs for the shift gate. The bulb base sizes are the BA9s, a 4 watt bulb (such as 3893) available most any place, and the BA7s, a 2 watt bulb (such as 3898) that is a lot harder to find. The photo in post #4 is the BA7s. The two sizes are not interchangleable so you need to know which size you need.

I just replaced the BA7s LED I had in my shift gate with the 3898 I ordered from eBay and it is perfect. The LED put the light in the wrong place and it was extremely dim. The 3898 very bright even in daylight.

BA 7 correct bulb

I ended up at the dealer for the BA 7. I did find some online ones for sale but when I added to my shopping cart the order was bumped up to 10 bulbs. Even the 4 watt bulbs readily found at the usual car part stores were in two packs for $5-$6 and they wouldn't have fit. $5 for the correct bulb at the dealers part dept. and they had it in stock. This was one case of the dealer being the easiest and cheapest for the part.

Where did you find an LED replacement for this bulb? Very interested to know. I've not been able to find ANY replacement for the PRNDSL bulb whatsoever except at the dealer.

If you do a Google search for the BA7s bulb it will give you sites selling LED replacements......but they are longer and the light does not get to the right place so it does not light up the Letters and is very dim compared to the #3898.

I too had a hard time finding the PRNDSL bulb before, but since I've installed a new one (a pair cost like $5-something I think), it's been good so far. Autozone did not have them, neither did Kragen. I forgot what the name of the store was, but it was mostly for American cars (right in front of an Autozone).

Yeah, it is odd.
Do you have any part number or description on the bulb base? Just for reference, that is the correct bulb.
