I have had my 190E 2.6 for about two months. The water temperature guage has a notch above the 80 degree mark. What is the degree reading for that notch? My other question is in 90 degree ambient temp. with the a.c. on the temp guage goes to that mark in traffic. Is this normal?

Thanks for the info in advance, John

I believe that is the 100C mark that is above the 80C. It is normal for it to go up to that mark w/ AC on in traffic. If it gets much above that it is time to worry and get it looked at. Just keep fresh coolant in there and make sure the system is in good running order.

Re: water temp gauge

Nate is rght on. Wach your gauge going up. the main radiator fan (electric) should kick in at about 110C (the fan switch is 100C-110C, which means that it will turn on the fan at 110C and turn it of with engine temp at about 100C). By the way, ambient temp of 80 degrees F is about 27 deg. C. The ambient temp has very little influence on the engine temp. What matters is what accessories you'll turn on or off (heat, ac, etc).

Re: water temp gauge

I have a 190 16v that was running hot. Ended up that the radiator was shot. While the mech was in there though he jumped the primary fan sensor on the top of the engine by placing a bead of solder between the two prongs. The primary fan now stays on the the temp barely reaches 100C at idle witgh a/c in 100F weather. Cruise temp is 85C. My understanding is that the primary sensor is set for about 105 or so and we (mech and I) thought that was to high.

Re: water temp gauge

My gauge got a little over 100C today... I was doing a lot of high traffic driving, and the air wasn't really moving. Once I got moving it came back down to 85C. I still am wondering if my thermostat is getting a little flaky.
