Up until now, us local enthusiasts (including an official Benz dealer) thought that the valve clearance tool for Gen 1 and Gen 2 cars is one and the same.

When ordering one for the Gen 2's recently, we found that there is a 0.6 mm difference in barrel hight, where the Gen 2 is shorter (and hence the compression disks should be fatter).

We haven't really got a definitive answer on this, but if this is correct -as opposed to a manufacturing defect- I estimate a boatload of Gen 2 cars are set up with the wrong clearance.

If anyone has information on this please post.

Thanks,

Pete

The manual actually mentions something about this...I'm not so sure that it was a difference in engines as much as it was a spec change.
