Warning light for brake bulb always on

4089 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  echandler
Car is a 1996 s500

The bulb warning light on my dash is always on; indicating that a brake lightbulb is out.

Even though the bulbs are working - I replaced them anyway

The warning light on my dash is on; it comes on the first time I press the brake peddle after engine start, and then it stays on until the engine is shut off.

Brake lights seem to be working fine.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Please advise, thank you,

No - the warning light is for the brake lightbulb, not other components for the brakes.

The warninig light on the dash is for the parking lights, turn signals, and brake lights. Owners manual states that the warning light will remain on if the problem is in the brake lights. The warning will go off for all others when they are not being used.

Please advise, thanks

thanks - I will try that -
Problem solved:

3rd Brake light - even though the bulb lit and appeard to be working fine; I burnished the contacts and the problem is solved.

I am not sure how this warning system works, but it appears that if the curcuit resistance increases to a certain level - then the warning is tripped. That certain level of increase does not have to be so high that you have a complete break in the circuit (ie bulb failure).

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post.
