The Burl Wood trim on the glove box is missing on one side. A whole kit is in the region of $300 but I only need one small piece not the whole kit.

Two possibilities, are there suppliers that just sell parts of the trim not the whole set? Or perhaps someone has bought a set and replaced what they needed to replace and have the glove box parts left over, which I am willing to buy from them?

or any other ideas?

Presumably it's only the veneer that's missing. The chrome base is all one piece. Just buy a little piece of paper backed veneer and lacquer it. Note that it takes quite a few coats and sanding with 400 grit to achieve a gloss finish. If you cant find some I'll send you a small piece (unlacquered) for postage only. PM me your address. I can't imagine postage more than $20.

Thanks Aussiemerc and for the kind offer. I googled paper backed burl walnut veneers, there are several suppliers here, a couple of square feet is about $30 so I can experiment with it. I have the chrome it's just the veneer is missing. from one side the other side is starting to lift also.
In the photo did you make all those veneer parts, if so good job!

There s/be a VERY thin piece of aluminum under the old veneer but if yours is missing you may need to make one . After making the alloy piece glue the finished piece of veneer (after lacquering) to the alloy and then cut to size otherwise you can get glue on your finished veneer. Glue the finished piece to the chrome with normal contact. Fiddly but not difficult. Good luck.

Interesting. I had no idea about the alloy, so I just went to the car and had a look and yes where the trim has come off I am looking at alloy not chrome. So the 1mm thick veneer and lacquer strip which has come adrift has come unstuck from the alloy. The right hand side is off now, it just came off whilst I was messing with it, almost fell off. The alloy is still very firmly stuck to the chrome.

Thinking out aloud, I should leave the alloy in place and just lacquer the veneer to 1mm thick, cut to size and glue this to the alloy where it is? Or not?

What lacquer did you use?

No, it's best to remove it like I showed in the pic. . Drip gasoline in at the ends between the alloy and the chrome and use a small spatula to gently remove it. It will come off easily.Glue the finished veneer to the alloy then trim the veneer to size.
I used a 2 part glue for the veneer to the alloy and normal contact glue for the alloy to the chrome. BTW it's best to use a non-yellowing lacquer (UV protected) on the veneer although the thin strips usually don't fade much.Ships chandlers will have good lacquer. You may be able to save your right side piece by removing the old lacquer and soaking in an acetone bath for a day or two. It won't damage the veneer. You have to seal the bath or the acetone will evaporate. You may need to sand it LIGHTLY with 400 grit. New veneer is.042 inches thick so it's best to use a pad to stay even. Also, when glueing the alloy and veneer to the chrome, make sure the lacquer has fully hardened ( mine took 2 days) or you can get marks on your lacquer.
Ask me how I know!

Thank you Aussiemerc I will order a piece its 18" x 8" 15$ plenty to practice with, will give it a go, though I think this is a winter job that I can do inside and have plenty of time experimenting with glues and lacquer. whilst the weather is good I need to do other things with the car starting with cleaning under the hood, then timing chain and guides, brakes, suspension, exhaust and who knows what I might find. Come November it's too cold and miserable to be out there! Thank you again for your help, I'll post pics when its done.
