IF your call still has the trap oxidizer, then MB is still honoring their recall program that consists of a full exhaust, turbo, and possibly even a new engine IF it was damaged due to the trap oxidizer.

Does your car still have the original trap-oxidizer?!? MB is supposedly still honoring a recall on it from which you could score a whole new exhaust system AND turbo.

Original trap was already replaced under recall no problem right now just want to eliminate it and enjoy peace of mind and a bit of performance.

If it was replaced under warranty, then you no longer have a trap oxidizer. The recall included conversion to a oxidation catalyst in the exhaust system similar to a conventional catalytic converter in gasoline cars.

Here is a pic of the oxidation catalyst that is present in vehicles that have had the oxidizer trap removed under the recall campaign

Trap was replaced under warranty or recall as per VMI check and was replaced with a new trap not a bypass pipe.

IF your trap was replaced then you still have the football size affair under the hood. If your car does not have the football, the trap was ditched as part of the recall.

The recall mandated removal of the trap as the new exhaust does not mount to the old trap, necessitating replacing the entire exhaust including turbo.

I suspect since this was done early on (89) as a warranty perhaps before deemed a recall with the whole pipe/turbo/exhaust replacement was enacted. In any case the trap is now going to to replaced with a pipe when found. This is is a one owner car with low mileage that I just acquired and intend on using it for a daily driver.

If your car still has the football, it is in your best interest to take the car to a local MB dealership and let them verify it. You may end up with a new turbo and complete exhaust. What have you got to lose?

Just make sure you make it crystal clear to the dealer that your car still has the oxidizer trap device
