Hello all I'm interested in getting my first benz (again). It's a 420sel that the owner said the engine had been replaced. He said it runs fine but has a little trouble on hot start. I've read about this issue and it seems it could be a number of things but most everyone says to say the accumulator first, then the, injectors, then some fuses/plugs. The thing that is a little more concerning is that he said it smokes a little if he's driving and gets on it.

Here are the videos he sent me of a hot and cold start. What are your opinions? Trying to use my best judgement and help because it's far to get and would be driving it back!

Your motor sounds familiar, but I am no expert. As we have seen in similar posts, there are many factors that go into purchase decision -- mileage, rust, overall condition, etc etc. I don't remember the thread, but a few months ago there was a first time buyer who presented a nifty looking W126 but it turned out to have numerous flaws and was wildly overpriced even if it had been cleaned up nicely. Perhaps someone else can remember that thread or there are lots of other "should I buy....:" threads in Search Community.

I passed on it due to distance of getting it/driving it back and the smoking issue more importantly. Going to check one out in jersey tonight. Thanks for the insight and wish me luck!
