Just posting this in case anyone else gets the same issue I had. When the side lights were turned on the dash would illuminate for about 3 seconds then go dark again, the side lights did not come on at all. The problem was the plastic casing of the control switch on the dash had a crack on the side where the clips held the unit together. The play due to the crack was only about 0.5mm but it was enough to prevent the dial from operating the micro switches inside the unit correctly. I solved it by squeezing the casement together properly then I used a soldering iron to melt and fuse the plastic of each half together to remove the play and they work perfectly now again. Hope it helps someone else took me a while to find out what it was as the play was minimal.
