Hi All,

I have decided to set my course to some unchartered water. I decided to upgrade my audio from Audio 20 MF2752 to the latest audio RY2550. Advantages of the latest is that it has Bluetooth Audio, Reverse Camera, Bluetooth calls, Navigation, USB, SD card and line in.

I am looking for any who has tried to install reverse camera and where to install it and where I can get a compatible one.

I have never seen an Audio 15 in real life: even though the physical dimensions are the same, it was never supplied, nor meant to be fitted, to either W169 or W245.

I fear you might have locked yourself into having to fit an OEM camera (Sprinter type, if different - no idea), or work out adapters, or cut and re-fit a different connector.

If the cam is connected via green Fakra, you can try RCA-GF adapter (search eBay), but again - no guarantee.

Post a picture of the rear, so we can see the ports - I don't have a pinout for Audio 15, unfortunately.

Here's a user guide, but it's pretty basic.

The sound quality and output from this radio is out of this world. I love it's engineering.

The PIN config is almost the same.

The pink Fakra is USB and the green Fakra is reverse camera. I read this in wis. The issue is getting a camera that would fit somewhere in the boot and at the same time be compatible with Audio 15.

Well, compatibility is a big question mark here - you can try a Farka adapter as a first step, but I have heard these are not terribly reliable (no personal experience).

For that money you could have bought a top notch android unit, and you can retrofit any kind of shit to it from 360° parking system... sky is the limit
Sometimes you have to code it via Vediamo to enable factory reverse camera...( it's a bitch)

Hi Fredrick!

Can i ask you some questions?

I've found this post some time ago and decided to try adapting Audio 15 to a w211 E-class.
Basically for the reason that both your w245 and w211 are generally of the same generation, both have 8 buttons on the steering wheel (as opposed to later 12), both had the same Audio 20CD (MF2752) and Command NTG 2.5 as factory options and, last, that Audio 15 is basically identical to Audio 50 on my facelift GLK (except for CD and MOST capability), and more important, supports Bluetooth music (A2DP).

Can you please share some details on instalaltion process?
I've found the right pinout scheme (Basically almost identical to NTG 2.5, only had to move one PLUS pin to pos. 14), it started up, buth for now i cant win the battle with the CAN BUS.
It seems that it works on the same speed and standard (receives, transmitts and understands codes), but the code adreesses are completely messed up. I've got like 5 errors on the dashboard and like 10 more on StarDiag. All steering wheel buttons ceased to work, windshield wipers started to activate from some buttons on Audio 15, dashboard 86C on outside temperature (that appeared to be the length in seconds of a track currently playing on Audio 15).

Mine device is RY2540 from 2018 w447 vito, unfortunately. May be that is because its so late?
The car itself initially had the same audio 20 as yours did, later upgraded to command ntg 2.5 (almost the same as audio 15, plus bigger screed, DVD and possible Harman-Cardon option, but without A2DP. Generally thats the same as pre-facelift w212 command, just in monoblock)
We were unable to connect to Audio 15 via StarDiag, probably because it's too old (mostly supports cars up to 2012-2013)
I've got some MB coders contacts, but both are not interested to help. One suggested trying to make a programmable can-filter (CANNY 7.2 device), but it first needs a can-hacker set and probably some initial data to sniff all the codes.

Did you have any CAN problems? How did you win that, if so?

Thanks a lot!

Best wishes,
Serge

I would recommend you have Star Diag and DTS Monaco handy. Most likely it will throw an "Anti-theft" error code soon. Therefore you will need to:-

1. Align the CAN-high and CAN-low lines. Check WIS doc of your head-unit vs the new unit (using VIN Number). Notice the difference and align accordingly. You will get VIN through DTS Monaco.
2. RY2540 is powered by two power lines and not one, hence the need to split the power lines (I think is pin 13 and pin 16.) will confirm later.
3. Using DTS Monaco, Change the head-unit VIN number, and also key in the "Anti-Theft code. After that readapt the head unit. That should cure the CAN issues.

Thanks for a answer!
I've already got an anti-theft code, but last time we were unable to connect to a head unit, but so far we only have star diag (it might be quite an old version, i remember it had troubles with w218 though) and vediamo. will look into Monaco, thanks
1) will recheck the connection. it seems they should be pinned correctly, but id did not yet found a 100 correct pinout scheme for audio 15. only for ntg 4.5 from a w218. will look into VIS but i think the pinout is correct, we have connected a second power +, i think it was pin 14
3) Can you give some more info on this point? May be you know a video tutorial?
It actually did not lock yet, as if it doesnt see a VIN code at all. probably for the same reason as wipers start from a head unit) A stock ntg 2.5 locks out immediately.
Do i get it right, i will have to change VIN in audio15 to my correct VIN (hopefully it wont freak out as it is a w211), than input a code (bought it from a local mb guy, hopefully its not a scam), than run a some kind of adaptation procedure? right

BTW, do you know, was it a factory option on your w245? or only sprinters and vito?
And, mb you can share what date is HW and SW on your unit? i have an option to buy a 2013 device instead of 2018, should i try if i wont able to fix 2018 one?

Thanks a lot!

BTW, there may also be a problem to connect to a head unit because my car initially had audio 20. My current command ntg 2.5 is not visible via star diag too, as i understand because it a 2009 option in a 2006 car, and car is still coded for audio 20, and shows audio 20 in stardiag. May be it cant officially support it, or the guys who installed it did not bother, But NTG 2.5 works 100% correctly otherwise. No conficts with buttons or instrumental cluster.

Hi @Cokoll, took time to see your comments. I will do a video over the coming weekend, if I have time. Good that you gave antitheft code handy. My car came with the stock Audio 20, but decided to upgrade to Audio15, due to additional functionalities like, Bluetooth telephony, SD card and USB, back camera.

You will not be able to connect the unit through DAS, unless you change some parameter coding through VeDoc - which I have never tried. Fortunately, you can connect with Vediamo, but must be version 5.x. Version 4.x will only connect with .CBF file and not .smr-d. I find Monaco easier to setup and deal with. You will also need a file AUDIO906.smr-d to help you connect to the headunit - which is available in the Xentry folder (can provide the exact path later).

Audio 15 was never a factory option for W245, but was for sprinter with YOM >2015, hence compatible; dimensionally and can bus operations, has no conflict with the steering buttons, but in the instrument cluster, you will be able to see the radio functions but not the song title and phone number dialed.

My 211 initially had the same audio 20 as your 245 did, i had than upgraded it to comand ntg 2.5 in 2011 (but thats a factory option, though on 2009 model year, while my car is 2006, it was also factory for w245 from 2009) It has lots of additional functions compared to both audio 20 and that audio 15 too - like DVD, MOST Support, etc, basically its the same as pre facelift w212 though in monoblock. but it lacks Bluetooth audio... That's why i started looking into audio 15 after finding your thread. Bluetooth music is more useful than DVD in a car and i don't have a Harman Cardon set in that car anyway))))

It doesn't fit physically, my HU is wider in the upper part, but if i'd be able to make it work - i will just glue the sides from NTG 2.5, i've already compared, they fit otherwise)

You have mentioned "AUDIO906.smr " - do i get it right that it means that your device is configured for w906? May be than i should just try that 2013 unit from a sprinter, it may work already without Monaco or Vediamo...

Thanks a lot in advance!

We seem to be following the same journey :). I also had to upgrade to the same audio NTG2.5 before moving forward to Audio15.

You will need Monaco or Vediamo due to Antitheft code error, even when you install Audio15 from Sprinter. The one from sprinter (which I have installed is RY2550), while yours is RY2540. There is no big difference, even the look, shape and such are similar.

Talking of not fitting, I remember I had to break some small pieces (kind of dove-tail / interlocking joint) from the car lining to enable the audio fit perfectly, the upper part. I did it with pliers and worked perfectly.

RY2550 diagnostic file is named AUDIO906.smr-d (i bet is the same file for RY2540) and flashing file is AUDIO906.smr-f. The new sprinter chassis number starts with WDD906... hence the 906. Just like the way W245 car parts start with A169 because they share parts with A-class WDD169...

Yup, i know. And the oldest one i can buy right now is a 2013 ry2350 with 906 p/n, s/w and h/w numbers. It lacks navi and has a different back side - its long like NTG 2.5 with horizontal motherboard, while 2540 only has one vertical board on the face.
What concerns me so far is that Vediamo did not see audio 15 in a car at all. Hopefully Monaco will.

Did you have those issues with can codes like mine (lots of mistakes in a car, moving wipers, weird data on the dashboard and buttons stop working altogether) at first? It is suspicious that it didn't ask for a code, while my second NTG 2.5 unit lock immediately as it starts with CAN bus connected.

BTW, my NTG 2.5 appeared to be with 169 numbers on the back too. Only the whole front assembly is 211 )
But s/w is most likely already for 211, at least background pictures are correct.

Path to the Audio906.smr-d, "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mercedes-Benz\Xentry\Kontexte\ODXProjekte\VAN_COMMON\dbr"

download the attached and change the remove .txt from the extension. Let me know how it goes. Thanks
Thanks a lot. Will reply as soon as i get all set up. Currently reading how to use monaco and how to setup and connect it at all. Do i get it right, it is better used with VAS5054 scanner? I kinda strongly suspect that my SD C3 is too old to connect to audio 15 at all and is not sutable for monaco as well

Thanks for a WIS. I'm so inexperienced it was still a problem to find.
So far a guy who sold me the unit has connected me with an MB Coder he knows, he agreed to help me somewhere around week or two. Guess that will be faster and simpler. Will share the results)
