I have a 2003 S55 AMG. I have scoured many posts but haven't been able to find one that fits my issue. I would great appreciate it if someone could provide some insight on how to repair or at least identify the problem. After all that reading I did, I am focusing in on the PSE Pump, but what doesn't seem to fit that bill is that other features that seem to work off the PSE Pump are working fine.

What's working:
- I can open the trunk from the key fob
- I can open the trunk using the button on the door
- I can CLOSE the trunk using the button on the door
- Soft close for all of the doors and the trunk work

What's not working:
- I am unable to close the trunk using the red button on the end of the trunk below the license plate. As mentioned above, I can close it using the button on the drivers door.
- My Airmatic seats (bladders within the seats inflate/deflate) depending on if I'm turning right or left.
- Seat massage not working
- Seat Pulse not working

I am thinking it is the PSE Pump, but if it is, than why are the soft close and the trunk opening from the door working? I've looked at the PSE Pump and it does seem like water got in that area some how so it does look to have some possible rust or other damage on the metal portion of the pump.

So here's a recap of my questions:
1. Is there a way to test whether or not the PSE Pump is working?
2. Anyone else have this issue and resolved it?
3. Anyone able to provide insight on a possible solution?

Thank you in advance.

First shot of a scenario:

I guess you have code 433 and 434 - in that case seats are independent from PSE. There is a additional airpump with its hoses for that seats which makes the problem.

According to your statements the PSE seem to be okay. If PSE is dead the trunk wouldn't open while using the button on the door; also softclose will stop.

So a close look at the button/lock mechanism of the trunk, the pneumatic hose at the lock of the trunk (does the trunk really close?) and at the hoses of the additional airpump is recommended.

Thank you for your response Bullethead. Can you tell me what Code 433 and 434 mean?

To answer your questions.

- Yes, the trunk closes all the way as long as i hold the door switch down. It actually slams down pretty hard.

- By any chance, do you happen to know where the other pump is located on this model (03' S55 AMG)? The one that controls the seats?

I will take your advice and check the lock mechanism to see if there are any hose leaks, etc.

Thanks again.

In german code 433 is "fahrdynamischer Sitz". I'll try to translate "(driven) dynamic seat - 433 is driver and 434 ist passenger.

If you have it the pump is in the trunk near the left rear light. The PSE is also on the left side but near the top.

Can you hear any hissing noise?

I have the driver and passenger Dynamic Driver Seats I do have a PSE pump next to the batter on the right side. I will check in a couple of days on the pump on the left side. The reason for the delay is that i's pretty cold where I am but it supposed to get nicer in a few days. I do not hear any hissing, but isn't to say that I was listening for the hissing. I will try to listen for it and will reply back once i find the 2nd PSE pump.

Are you aware of a test of some kind to figure out whether or not the pump is working or not? For example, with the one I did find and look at (on the right side) I can't figure out if its working or not. I don't know what to look for to validate.

Thx

The pump next to the battery is not the PSE (pneumatic with air). It is a hydraulic pump with oil for remote closing the trunk.

Both pneumatic pumps are on the left side - I wrote so.

Look up the encyclopedia - you will find hints for you problem.
