New E63 owner

So after 2 years of w210 e55 ownership (build thread here http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w210-e-class/1727168-bought-crashed-e55-wagon-photo-diary.html)...

...this e63 came up and I couldn't say no!

Low miles, almost completely immaculate. It's an ex-demonstrator so quite well spec'd, including the black and tan Designo interior which I absolutely love! Probably won't stay stock for long...

Question regarding the splitted intercooler. What is the benefit of splitting and what is needed? Removal of compressor?
