I have changed oil in my 3 year old 50K mile E350 W211 twice now since buying it second hand and in other cars hundreds of times. I recently changed oil & filter on this Benz using 0W-50 Mobil 1. Ran it and checked it for leaks then parked it. Two weeks later I take it for a drive and 5 minutes into the drive its blowing smoke like similar to the Blues Brothers Dodge at the end of the movie. I took the plastic engine covers off and it probably lost 1/2 a litre of engine oil (in 15 minutes) from the filler cap falling onto the RH exhaust manifold. The cap was on properly thats what worries me as after cleaning it and running the car it would not leak anything. Taking off the cap while running you get droplets of oil shooting up about 6in from the filler but I suppose thats normal as the double row chains are visible and they need oil? Is there anything else I should know i.e. oil filler caps fail or would this happen if I put in too much oil in which I dont think I did or is there another problem with the engine? By the way the car and engine did not miss a beat and no warning lights come on during this 15 minutes of embarrassment driving home after the smoke was spotted. Please Help!!!
