I have searched this forum high and low and found nothing on this. How does one remove the top nut from the front shock assembly (non-airmatic). The nut is recessed into the top plate and the shock piston rotates with the nut, so you have to be able to turn the nut while holding the piston still. I tried an angled open ended wrench, but it won't fit down in the recessed hole in the top plate. A socket will fit but then it is impossible to hold the piston still.... If this is another one of those "you have to buy the special tool from Mercedes", I'm going to punch somebody.

You need a "pass through socket", it allows the tip to be exposed so you can grab a hold if it, and it has a hex head on the top of the socket similar to a spark plug remover socket but very short.
