I believe the early E-320s had airmatic as an option but I don't think the 2006 model had it, that was the E-550. What happens when you replace the front struts with Bilstein is that there are some rings which set the ride height, normally it's either the 2nd or 3rd ring, can't remember but there's like 10 rings and it comes set at the 10th ring so it's normally too high. I suppose if it was set at the 1st ring it would be a little bit lower but that would be compressing the spring even more and my mechanic had a hard time getting it to compress with the regular setting. Otherwise if you had airmatic, then there's buttons next to the shifter which let you adjust it up or down. Some people get a Star system to set them even lower. You'd have to get the E-550 which came with it as standard, but avoid the early 2007 models as it has the timing chain problem like your 2006 has the potential balance shaft problem.
