I think this will be a fun thread. Post any sightings of W210s or S210s.

Does that mean it is a 1996?

Nah, means it's 1996-2000. But that's UK, so likely it's 95-99.

Excluding whats in our driveway, right ? Cause thats the most common....lol.

I did see a gold colored w210 sedan in Nacogdoches Texas (near us) yesterday - kinda rare I don't see all that many hereabouts.

Seems like more C Class and def a lot of newer SUV's & Crossovers
(CLA 250, etc).

Have seen 2 w210's in the area (Buffalo, MN) over past year. A 98 E320, silver/gray, owned by an older couple, bought new, no rust. Said only major expense was replacing catalytic converters at 160k miles. The other was an E420, solver/gray bought with 30kmi by older couple in '99. No major repairs, no rust, only driven summers. Headlight were badly oxidized, I gave him info on the 3M kit to grind off and polish. He was very grateful.

When I first saw this I thought it a bit odd. In CA I might see 10 W210s a day - certainly 5-7. Sometimes 20. They are all over the place.

I recently took my R129 across 20 states and until I got back to Reno, didn't see a 1. Saw one in Reno, as pre-facelift. Ditto for 210s. Being on the West coast gives one a skewed view of Mercedes popularity.

Ditto here in Bay Area. Besides my three W210s, there's at least four other in the neighborhood.

I see a lot of silver E320s in my area. I also think that is because lots of people chose silver. I saw a post facelift Champagne E320 with the paper plate on it and the indicator assembly hanging out of it.

I wonder if many preferred silver or that is what the sales mgr of the dealer selected? For years we’d get a full pallette of black, white, and silver.

I was told by my parts friends at the dealer that now MB-USA is making dealers pick more colors - I see now red, yellow and others in the showroom.

Now that's hilarious. Even the folks at the HQ were ragging on it before it came out.

I'm one of those people who says W210 is ugly as balls. It only looks good from the back, the front end is weird as balls.

But then I have 3 of them, so clearly I'm not a great judge. 😂

I think the W210 looks a bit dated unlike the W124 which is almost timeless.

But I like the front end. It’s the rear to me that looks like an afterthought

and I think Bruno Sacco was involved in this wasn’t he?

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think he was involved in the design aspect of the W210, W203 and W220.

He was certainly involved in the previous W201, W124 and W126, and then later R129 and W140.

I have a hard time reconciling the fact that the guy who brought us this:

2696377

was also responsible for THIS.

2696378

I made a point to compare stock photos, because while I can find really good looking W210, but they are lowered, with massive aftermarket rims or otherwise murdered out. Same with W126, they're lowered, murdered out and wear split rims. That's not how the 126 came out of factory.

He may have been emphasizing the horizonal and vertical design of MB cars -- as in most MB in a generation will share design cues with each other, which is why W201 190E looks so similar to W124 300E.

Likewise, the W210, W203 and W220 share the same front end design, as in the bulbous double headlight was certainly copied over from the 210 to other models.

Otherwise I have to say about W210....

In fact the only cars with the double headlight designs that I like is this:

2696379

or

2696380

You can clearly see the horizonal design cues in all of the cars I mentioned above. The CL headlights work because the car is a loooooooooooong boy. It doesn't look as goofy as the 210.

211 smoothed out the goofy lines, stretched the hood a little bit and separated the headlights, so it actually looks right. Plus the headlights don't look like someone stuck in four flashlights and then designed the bumper around it.

If I could have the W210 body, drivetrain but the W211 exterior, I would do it in a heartbeat.

i much prefer the W210 looks over the W211. The W210 has the classic horizontal grooved rear taillights, which started with the W111 of 1962. And the deeply contoured hood and rounded front fenders pay homage to the famous Ponton.
The W211 tail lights are way to similar to the 2002 Hyundai.
But I do prefer the W211 wagon profile to the W210, especially from the rear quarter to the tail.

I agree, I also am not so sure about the W211 rear end.

Here is a funny story, I was going to go get donuts, and when my order was ready ( it took a long time because the line is usually two blocks long ), the car hop asked: "Is that a classic Mercedes?" Then he said "A 300 series right?" ( as in the legendary 300sl ). I don't really think the guy knew his cars, but at least he knew it was a classic. :)
