Hi all,

I just got my 99 e55 and wasn't aware of it's traction control switch at first.. so when I first tried how fast it goes, I did what I normally do with the regular cars and let the car roll at about 40kph while on "d" and completely flooring it to make it downshift to 1st and really feel the pull. With the traction control on, it downshifted to 1st when I completely floored it and the car/dash vibrated like crazy with the traction light blinking for about 2 seconds before I lifted my foot off the gas. Obviously the traction control prevented the wheels from spinning.

I'm a bit worried to have broken something with this smart move? Did I break anything? I hope not:( The car still drives great and I finally learned how to turn off the traction control when doing floored launches while rolling to downshift to 1st.

Thank you very much guys! :)

I suspect there's some metal shavings in the transmission pan now. If the PO had put a magnet in it, the shavings would get caught. But don't take any of my words for it.

No comment on the shavings - but if you want to feel what a E55 will do you MUST understand the ECU/tranny reset procedure (to reset to the agressive factory defaults) which takes all of 4 minutes AND read the owner's manual to understand your auxiliary systems..

Before you do any serious work with the car, understand the NECESSITY of correct tranny service (with original 5-speed MB/Fuchs fluid) so you can drive your E55 like it was meant to be, and prevent premature tranny failure.

Keep the beat!

Thank you for the inputs. By the way, the car downshifted to 1st gear well when this happened.. the vibration was obviously because of the tire slip while the traction control is on because of the power of the engine when the downshift happened. Engine went wild and caused the tire to slip and the car to make the vibration while accelerating :)

four minutes? I get 2:20.

20 seconds: key in, turn to run, pedal down, hold 15 secs, key turn back fully, pedal up
2:00 minutes : key in, then key out. reset complete.

Am I going too fast?
