This might be one of those projects where it's easier to sell and re-buy.

Not to be a wet blanket but there is a lot of (expensive) body parts to change out ( even bought at a junkyard). I recall MBZ shortened and dropped the front end a bit with the late W210 series.

Someone on this forum with more experience than I probably wants to give an opinion that is better than mine.

Mark Cummins sounds pretty close - but think of the electrical "hooey" that connects to the parts he mentioned - whew[:0]
[:0] oh wow. i didnt realize there were so many changes. i thought it was just the hood and the front bumper that needed to be changed to get the facelift look.

what other aesthetic mods can i do for my 97 W210?

so far ive installed the ff:
18" brabus monoblock VI
avant garde grill
euro-style glass mounted antena (similar to the ones u find in the current c-class and clk)
german plate numbers
It is not as bad as it sounds depending on how far you want to go. The general public will not be able to guess the model year of your car as long as it is in like new condition.

The new rear shelf is noticable to a Benz person because of the rear center brake light.

The tail lights and rear bumper cover are not that bad of a swap but go a long way to updating the look.

The side skirts help get rid of the lower black areas along the bottom of the car that are a dead give away that the car is the pre-face lift model.

The most difficult part is the front bumper but most people don't see the front end for long in their rear view mirror. So I didn't change mine.

I would recommend changing the side moldings in the doors and front fenders so that the line of chrome matches. I have not seen anyone change the door handles and you don't need to worry about the inside cluster.

Change the mirrors to blinker mirrors for the most functional part of the conversion.

My E-Class is a 96 and I get compliments even at the dealership.

nice ride!

the pics were very informative..

just a few questions.

are the rear lamps direct bolt on to the pre face lifted model?

what side skirts do you have? are they amg side skirts or the standard face-lifted side skirts (i just color coded/painted the black bits on my front and rear bumpers and the side to match the body color and get that streamlined effect)

how about the headlights? did the face lifted model come wth projector style headlamps?

Arent the door handles just color-coded/painted to match the body color? (but still leaving the chrome bits ofcourse)

Like E-class said, depending how for you want to go.
Mine is 98, I spent around $6000 to $7000 (with some connection).
*1999-AMG front and rear bumper
*2000-Side skirts
*Depo projector headlight with HID, still need to upgrad to w211 projector.
*CL-girll
*18" wheels
*2000 tail light
*Roof spoiler
I'm looking around for the exhaust. Love the AMG one, but still waiting around maybe I could find something better. If you know any, let me know please.
Thank,

E-Klasse, that is a nice ride indeed.

Where did you get the "Sport" badge? And how did you change the "E-320" badge to "E-32"?
I have seen the sport badge on e-bay, and just a crazy guess.... He took off the 0 from the e 320 to make it e 32.

Peace out
Somebody mentioned the general public. Here are my two cents:
The GP couldn't care less what year it is EVEN if they know it's a Merc. (I'm reminded of owners who slap a big "Honda" or "Mustang" or whatever decal across the top of their windshield: people who know it's a Honda don't need a big sign and people who don't know it's a Honda couldn't care less.)
For everyone else, what would the purpose be?
My rant for Easter Monday...
Too much chocolate, I guess.

Good rant/rave! When your an owner, read forums specific your model, your can spot the all subtle changes that many other W210 owners have done. Everyone else, probably don't even know or care.

If you are trying to impress the GP, then buy a newer car.

But if you want invest in making you car look better for yourself, new wheels go a long way. A nice brand name body kit is good too, it is expensive, but probably less $$$ than getting all the parts for your face lift. And finally, taillights, they are an easy way to upgrade.
I realize this is a old thread but I have questions about the more functional conversion bits. Steering wheel, the adjustable column, digital ac controls, electric hookups for the seats. I'm in Germany and parts are plenty. I like the pre facelift look as it feels like more car. Like a thicker, fuller vehicle. I have the 4 cylinder E200 it's a 98 and it is just about as bare minimum as you can get. Down to no ac compressor. I would greatly appreciate some knowledge.
