I was unable to find in the owners manual any reference to a valve adjustment service interval for the 606. Mine is pushing 300K miles and is getting plenty LOUD. To my knowledge it has never had a wrench put on it at least as far as the valve train/injectors are concerned.

Q: is there some kind of top end service that should be accomplished, if so, when and what's involved?

thanks for sharing your insight!

That sounds like nailing; it is the fuel system...note that it goes away when you rev the engine. Mine did that after I changed the fuel lines and filters. I ran it up to about 2500 rpm and held it there for a couple of minutes; some residual air worked its way out of the fuel system and the nailing went away.

When was the last time your fuel lines were changed? Can you see air bubbles in the clear lines? This may be causing the noise.

Thanks Guys,
Doesn't appear to be any air in the fuel lines.
Filters were changed in March, about 8-10K of 70-80 mph miles ago. So I'm thinking any air has long been purged. I was kind of hoping for 'adjustment' as opposed to 'injectors' if you know what I mean...

Also I think their is a non critical plastic piece that can crack in the lifters, but they have been doing that since the OM601. Makes a loud clacking though. Removing the camshaft is a tedious/risky portion of that job.

Also check your belt tensioner shock.

Thanks BH 10:
I'm running straight pump diesel, sometimes with a little Kleendiesel additive and the belt tensioner got replaced last spring too. (thought it might have been the source of some noise, but it wasn't).

Pardon me, but I'm at a loss as to understanding what o-rings would have to do with injector noises. (Then again, that's why I'm on this forum) :)
