Hi Trystin I have sent you the information emails and attachments via email hopefully they have come through, As you will see from comments above, there are issues with MBUSA currently, which we are challenging. Over here in the UK and Europe we don't have these issues, I have received an email from the owner of a W204 who has had theirs back from one of our 'Good Dealerships' who did their FOC replacement within 14 days of the vehicle being inspected, which is what I would expect from the dealerships over here. There is a group of owners I work with in the USA who share their email addresses with each other and a lot of them are now in contact with a couple of Law Firms in the US who are putting together a case to challenge MBUSA. If you would like me to share your email address with other owners and/or send you the contact information of the Law Firm in the US just let me know? (I can't share your email address with others without written permission (UK Data Protection Regulations)) Speak to you soon, Dave
Dear Dave,

Greetings from St. Paul, MN, USA. This is Sultan Faiz. I own a 2008 C300 Luxury 4Matic. My car's rear subframe totally failed from corrosion about two days ago. I found @mrix youtube channel where he talked about
C-Class W204 subframe failing due to corrosion problem. His video directed me to you via this BenzWorld Forum. Will you please send me the email template(s) regarding free replacement of rotted rear subframe? I will send it to my local Benz dealership.

Cheers,

Sultan Faiz.

There exists an intake page for this specific class action lawsuit. Please submit your information using the following link to formally join it: Mercedes-Benz Vehicle Subframe Defects

Also, it would be helpful to also file a case with the NHTSA, which can be done here: Report a Safety Problem | NHTSA. Please indicate that it is a suspension defect and plainly state the case as described to you by your mec
HI Sultan, I have sent you the paperwork that I usually send out to MB owners in the USA, I am well aware of the issues with MBUSA that is why I send so much information over to US owners. If you have any issues just contact me, I have draft emails for owners should they wish or need to progress the claim further up to Directors and the CEO of Daimler, Mercedes-Benz Cars AG in Germany. If you would like me to share your email address with the other owners in the US who have joined together to help and support each other, you will need of email me to confirm that I can share your email with others (I am bound by UK Data Protection Regulations and can not share this information without written permission) you will have noted from previous posts, that owners are contacting NHTSA and a Law firm with regard to the safety of some MB models that are suffering from rear subframe corrosion and rear subframes collapsing due to corrosion, please feel free to make these representations yourself giving them details of your own experiences. If you have any questions or need any help or advice, just contact me I am here to help :) Dave

Hi Maverick
I have completed the revised Information Sheet for the W204 Rear Subframe Replacement Information Sheet, I can send you a copy when I have your email address :) I will check on my Dealership List and with other Owners on our SLK Club site and see what Positive feedback I can get on Dealerships in your area? I have a list of Dealerships across the UK and Northern Ireland but, they only get 'sorted' into Good Dealerships and Dealerships to Avoid, when I receive feedback from Owners who have used them for subframe changes/inspections, etc. I also ask Members for their Feedback on Dealerships that they actually use If I don't have specific feedback in a specific area, and a Member needs some guidance on who to approach! Hope to hear from you soon, Regards Dave Evans SLKOWNERSCLUB.CO.UK
Hi Dave, I realise I am replying 12 months later on this thread but is it possible if you could send me this sheet also. I have a 2010 W204 that I have had from 2 years old and looked after it impeccably and a couple of days ago the rear subframe collapsed, and seems trawling over many MB forums its common for this to happen and I want to at least challenge them on it. My email is [email protected] Many thanks in advance, Garry

Hi Garry no problem, I'm still supporting owners out here from 'Subframe Corner'. we have now had 28 C&E-Class subframes replaced FOC in the last 6-7 months and 227 SLK subframes replaced FOC in the last 21 months so far in the UK/Europe, I will send you the paperwork that I send out to owners in the UK and Europe, the information in the paperwork includes information on the process and there is a draft email for you to personalise and send off to MBCS UK (Customer Service) I can possibly help you identify a Good Dealership in your area from my Good Dealership List and direct you away from Dealerships on my To Avoid List, Just let me know what area of the UK you are in :) If you have any questions, or need any help or advice just contact me I am here to help, :) Dave

Hello Dave, I am in the US and had my subframe break while driving on a major highway. I was able to get the vehicle under control and when the Mercedes dealer looked at it I received the "corroded subframe" diagnosis. The gasoline tank was dented and the torsion bar was bent. My car is a 2014 E350 with 60k miles that has always been dealer serviced, as recently as May of this year. Currently my car is sitting at the dealer since November 9th waiting for Mercedes to agree to pay for the $5,250 quote to repair this. I have a complaint registered with MBUSA and waiting on the executive referral manager to respond on how they are going to solve this. This issue should have been a recall as it is widespread and in my case could have caused a tragic accident. Are you an attorney looking to class action?
I’m in the US in CT, just paid $5,250 for the replacement. Frame cracked and almost lost control on the highway.

Hi Annette, this is quite a common issue both sides of the pond, when they do let go it is really scary!! If you were over here in the UK or Europe the fact that you have a Full MB Service History (FMBSH) would mean that you would be covered by the 30 Year Anti-perforation Corrosion Warranty, which of the 256 owners who have had their subframes replaced FOC across the model ranges we only have ONE who has had anything like a FMBSH. My understanding is that, in the USA the 30 year warranty does not apply (I have no idea why???) it is worth noting that the 10 year corrosion warranty WOULD apply in your case (as some of the excuses the MBUSA is that the cars are out of the 10 year warranty!! As with the initial issues we had over here - and still have with some of the Dealerships over here - is that there is no consistency of approach at all!! with this in mind, I suggest that you contact MBUSA and challenge the fact that you have been charged for the subframe replacement and, if you have no success with this challenge, contact me and I will send you a draft email for you to use to contact the Directors and Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars in Germany and challenge this with them, my understanding is that the Warranty applies in the USA and, perhaps question why the 30 year anti-perforation warranty does not apply in the USA, you still pay the same amount for the cars as is charged over here in the UK and Europe, so why is there such a difference in the quality of service and support available in the USA compared to that available in the UK and Europe?? I hope this helps, speak to you soon, :) Dave

Hi All, think I dodged a bullet when I nearly bought a C220 CDI Blue Eff Sport yesterday. Checked the MOT history and it failed on subframe corrosion on the 4thAug22 then passed on the 5th? Finding this thread made me realise there's no way it could have been fixed and the car was dumped on the second hand dealer I saw it at. Is this a problem with all of these cars? or just some, cos it was n to drive and the wife wants an auto to replace her Saab 1.9 TiD (with 50bHp extra chipped). Just want a good mpg 'perky' Exec'ish car to keep her happy. Any suggestions? Cheers Tim

Unfortunately this is all to common a problem with a number of MB Models. The only problem is that if it failed the MOT on the 4th and passed on the 5th, it is more likely that the old subframe has been welded not replaced which means that it is still susceptible for corrosion and the possibility that it may collapse - we have had 20 C & E-Class models that have had subframes collapse, some a new as 2014 models I have dealt with 3 since New Year. send me your email address to [email protected] and I will send you the paperwork and information sheets that I send out to owners in the UK and Europe as I see that you are in the UK. It is worth getting yours inspected for safety reasons!! contact me and I should be able to help you get your subframe replaced FOC by MB. Speak to you soon, Regards, Dave

I've just bought the above car after doing a visual on the subframe myself. It seems that the car failed at a merc dealer who did the MOT and a new one was fitted in one day. The lower wishbone bush areas were free of rust and had a smooth paint finish so it looked good to me. Wife already had the traction control slap her wrist on the way home....I told her its rear wheel, but she tried to gun it out of a roundabout in this weather! Think I'll up the insurance on the wife rather than car lol

That sounds like a good plan LOL. Re: The replacement of the subframe; this should take between about 3 and 5 hours and occasionally, up to 7 hours to replace according to one of my Dealership contacts so that sound like a reasonable turnaround time :) I would suggest that if it is a new subframe that you take the time to protect the subframe with something like Waxoyl or Lanolin and try and get as much as possible, inside the subframe as they rot from the inside - out, I have recently been informed that MB have changed their subframe manufacturer and, according to MB the new manufacturer puts rust protection inside the subframe during manufacture - but we must wait and see if that is being done? if you have any issues just email me your problem to dave[email protected] and I will do what I can to help, Good Luck speak to you soon, regards, Dave

Dave, I am facing the same situation as Annette with my 2012 C300. Nearly a $5000.00USD repair bill. After 52 days of no response to several inquiries with my local dealer and MBUSA, MBUSA finally (today) is only offering $510.00 USD "goodwill" compensation. Would appreciate you sending along the US information you've assembled so I can press MBUSA some more. Email is: [email protected] Thank you, Rob ** PS: you have my permission to connect me with the US owners group referenced in an earlier post.

Hello! There’s a small hole in the subframe of my 2014 E350. My mechanic says it will not pass inspection by August. Could I please have the info you have on attorneys, as well? I’ve read the replacement parts have been modified to prevent the issue from recurring. Is that the change in surface preparation you mentioned, or a change in the “dip” (as my mechanic describes) in the subframe where salt and water can sit?

Hi bamill, send me your email address to [email protected] and I will send you the paperwork over that I send to owners in the USA, when you contact me make sure that you put your BenzWorld name in the message so that I can link it to this message :) It isn't unusual for 2014 models to suffer from rear subframe corrosion, you are luckier than some owners who have had their subframes collapse on 2014 models!! You will have seen from previous messages on this string, that there are issues with MBUSA but I won't give up trying to help owners get the same service that we get over here in the UK and Europe! There are two main emails I send over one had 7 attachments and the other has 2 attachments I also send a third email over that contains link information to a couple of Lawyers that are working with some of our US owners and a link to the reporting of the subframe issues to the NHTSA and some of our US owners are using my data and information i send over to you, to also bring the safety issues with the corrosion and collapse of rear subframes to the attention of the Attorney General. Speak to you soon :) Dave Evans

Hi Folks, My name is Dave Evans and I am in the UK. I provide assistance to our Club members (SLKOWNERSCLUB.CO.UK) - we have 2.7k members, I look at structure and corrosion issues on members vehicles)). Our members have had serious issues with the rear subframes on Mercedes SLK R171 models built between 2005 and 2008, there was no anti-corrosion treatment applied to the inside of the rear subframes during production, so they have rotted from the Inside - out so, when you can see corrosion on the outside of the subframe, it's too late! I have been working with over 60 members of our group alone, who have subframe corrosion issues. We have had 9 subframes collapse whilst being driven, fortunately, no serious injuries or deaths (most collapsed at low speed, fortunately) We are the only Club over here that has had any success is challenging MBUK with regard to rear subframe replacement. Up to now, we have succeeded in getting MB to replace 30 rear subframes FOC (Free Of Charge) and I am still working with over 30 members helping them with the subframe issues by providing Information Sheets, data, and further help sheets as their claims progress! We are fortunate over here in the UK that we have Ministry of Transport Tests (MOT's) annually which pick up a number of these subframe issues, we, as a Club have set up a help scheme where members can approach me for information on the procedures and process for making a claim and I provide a 'Rear Subframe Replacement Information Sheet' which covers the initial contact with MB, a draft email, description of the process, etc. for members to use for their claims. Should there be any further issues with the claim, I have further Information sheets that escalate the process. My cousin lives in the US and he has sent me some info on the issues with Mercedes over there, that sound very similar to our experiences over here. I wondered if Mercedes Owners Club in the US were having any success in challenging MB and having things like the rear subframe corrosion issues addressed FOC? If there is anything I can do to help, please don't hesitate to contact me? I am not sure how your site works, whether I need to include my email or not? I can be contacted through our Club site 'SLKOWNERSCLUB.CO.UK'. you will bare in mind that the information I have relates to the UK I think I have identified the US Customer Assistance details off the MB site and I suppose that you know your individual local Dealerships? that is where the UK information will have to be converted to US information! All the work I do regarding the corrosion issues, is done by me alone, so, as you will appreciate, I am currently working with our Club members so, I apologise in advance of any delays in my responses! I look forward to hearing from BenzWorld and it's members - Best Regards Dave Evans SLKOWNERSCLUB.CO.UK
