hi everyone, never posted here, had an r129 SL 500 until recently, now I'm looking at maybe getting myself a C. To be specific I am interested in the C 270 CDI. But I have been told that the cars manufactured before 2003 have severe quality issues regarding rust and electronic malfunctions.

What are your opinions on this? Is there a major difference in quality on vehicles manufactured before 2003 and those manufactured afterwards?

thanks

When I was looking for mine I saw some rusty ones but there are some good ones. Mine is 2002 and not a bit of rust anywhere. If you find a good one with no rust in the wheel arches. Make sure you look for oil leaking on the underside of the inlet manifold from the swirl flaps £900 fitted and black sludge around the injectors seats. As for electric gremlings that's part of owning a C class

Just my two bits that might help. My 2004 C240 is without any problems to this day. Not one visit to a shop. I do all maintenance myself. Tried the "free" dealer maintenance in the beginning, but quickly discovered that the maintenance was not being performed. No rust problems here in southern California.
