99 C230K automatic...Trying to hone in on the issue i have, i am at 188k on this beauty and want to keep her going. It has been unusually warm and about a month ago the abs and asr lights came on (also came on about a year ago and went off after a few months) so figured nothing to be concerned about. A couple of weeks ago the check engine light came on which was a first.

It was around this time that i noticed the car would stay in first (or maybe second) gear, and i was going 40mph at 3000rpm, wouldn't shift. Also when i would go to reverse, it would act as if it was in neutral, no response from the gas pedal. I have found that that these issues come as a pair. Now if i am driving and i notice the high rpm's without shifting, i will pull into a gas station, restart the car and then good to go.

While this has been going on, my alternator just went out and i replaced this past weekend. not sure if related at all but figured would share.

OBDII code reads P0700 and P0500.

Any suggestions or troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated, like i mentioned above, trying to keep her going as long as possible. Bought her for $1000 five years ago and she has been nothing but great to me.

Welcome mercedesteve2020,

Read here:

Most likely you have oil contamination in your Transmission plug adapter and/or oil wicking up into your TCM ===> limp mode.

A spotty charging system can trigger random idiot lights.

On the tranny, first stop is changing fluid and plug.
