Hi, I have a 2012 ML 350. The rear lift gate opens intermittently. Weather I use the Key, door switch of lift gate latch sometimes the hatch will open 5 to 7 inches and then just stop. If I press any of the switches mentioned above the hatch will continue to open. I have read the error codes which there was only one which stated low voltage. I have experienced the intermittent opening at least 10 times so it seems odd to have only one error code logged. I have checked the main battery under the passages seat with the ignition switch set to accessories and read 12.6 VDC (with a load and no alternator).
I have read some other threads related to this error but have not found a definitive answer.

Spray the rubber seal with some silicone spray. Mine did what you mentioned and I found the rubber seal was sticking a little.

In an attempt to move forward with any suggestion anyone might have. I did exactly as matml430 suggested and applied silicon spray to the rear hatch gasket. No change. I have order a new strut motor and will communicate a status update when it is installed.
