The door panel must be removed to replace this switch module because it's held in by screws and a large bracket on its underside.

It's a little bit tricky so be patient, and cover your prising tools in insulating tape or use plastic ones to avoid causing scratches and other damage.

The door panel clips (there are 10 of them) are brittle in old cars so be careful not to break them, or buy new ones and have them ready.

Here's how:

Well, still in progress...

I replaced the switch module easily enough as per the video.

Then I dropped the door while trying to refit it and one of the two ribbon cables to the door module broke off, the green plug!

I had thought to put a step-stool under ithe door earlier but I didn't do that because I thought I was nearly done.

Sod's law.

Be sure to do that, I'm not sure if I can get a replacement cable.

The part number on my green-plug cable is A1645401508/003. The part number on the blue-plug ribbon cable is A1645401308/003.

I'm having a think on how and if I can repair it, the green plug looks OK.

I forgot to update this thread, I got carried away by other problems with this car.

The ribbon cables arrived and I rested the panel on the step-stool and carefully replaced the broken one and pushed all the connectors home.

The door panel was a pig to put back on the door, the door lock latch rod comes up through a plastic insert in it, and the insert on my door panel was broken so the rod kept falling out.

It took a while to get the panel back on. Then I had to lock and unlock the car a few times with the remote fob before everything worked, so keep calm if something doesn't work first time!
