Hello,

I am asking about advice for sticking a hood star on a W163. From what I have read, you basically just have to drill it in, is this the case? Or are there any peculiar kits online for this purpose.

I'm doing it as a gift for my dad, he got me into MBs. He misses it on his old W203 and he is jealous of it on my W220 and W203. I know the styling aspect might be controversial or whatever but I really don't care, I just want to do it for him because I know he wants it.

If you do have to drill it in, what is the best place to buy the hood star? I know theres a bunch of chinesium on eBay so I would like to avoid those.

Thank you.

Here you go.
No drilling required (unless you really wanna use your cordless)

I am still a little confused on the process of actually assembling it.

My W163 doesn't have the slot for the hood star, its just two pins for the badge.

I guess I will have to pull out the good old cordless馃し鈥嶁檪锔

Everything I find on forums is just saying how the dealer installed it for them, I can't find how anyone actually went about it, oh well.

I purchased the 210 version of the star, hopefully it goes well.

Having removed over 100 of the hood stars, I can tell you it's not simply drilling a hole. If you look at the video posted in comment 4 above, you'll see what the hole is supposed to look like; it's not only stamped downward, it has two cut outs where you twist the hood star to remove/install it. You should definitely attempt this on a piece of scrap metal before drilling into your hood, as it's definitely not an easy job. If you live near a junkyard, go check it out first.
