Got the 3 pieces back from powedercoating, assembled, and picked out tires.

They're starform Type D, 17x8/17x9, both et 24. I picked Michelin pilot sports A/S 3+, I didn't want tire quality to even be a question (plus the fronts had a load rating of 97, was pretty happy with that)

One last thing... 17's ride so much better than 19's... Sidewall cushion is a very underrated thing. Largest I would go in the future is an 18".

Also did you have to use spacers? Thanks

Good Morning Guys,

I have a 1999 CL500
- The car has H&R lowering springs, with Bilstein sport + front shocks and OEM SLS in the rear.

I just picked up some OZ Futuras
- The specs of the rims are 18inX9.5 in the front and 18inX10.5 with 30 offset in the rear.

I would greatly appreciate any input on fitment from you guys.
-What size tires should I be running in the front and rear, and should I stretch the tires? I want to avoid any rubbing.

Thanks guys
How did you adjust the SLS is the rear with the lowering springs?

Anyone ever go back to stock 16" rims?

I have a really nice set of stock 6 hole rims and newer tires on my rack on the wall since i replaced them last summer with 18" AMGs.

Im happy with the 18s and dont plan to drive in the winter, so im kinda just saving these as 'just in case' but realistically, they wont go back on the car. Debating if i should sell or hang on awhile longer

Perhaps this is a dumb question, but I haven’t been able to find the right answer.

How many different OE style wheels are there, which look like the 8-hole w140 wheels?
I’m getting a new to me 300SD, and it looks like the front wheels have a thick spacer. Not a fan of that, not sure why it is…. I have to wonder if the wheels are from another model and installed on it for some unknown reason.

Od like to have the right wheels and offset before investing in tires…

Thanks!

In the US, theres been only 3 styles, the 8-hole we all know (16x7.5 ET51), the 6-spoke (from 1996-1999), and finally the 18" AMG monoblocks (18x8.5)

Outside the US you could get a couple more and of course outside the US you could get steel wheels with hubcaps too. And you might have been able to get those in the US too...not sure about that.

These two I know of that weren't available in the US on the W140 sedan, the latter is one I particularly like.

Those two wheels remind me of what was on the early W210, and the late w126 cars.

The latter of the two is very similar to the W126 cars but it's 16", designed for 14mm lugs with W140 offset appropriate. If a set could be found for reasonable in the US I'd buy them, but they're not here, or if they are they're in a collection somewhere.

The former are very similar as those available for the CL class cars, but a little less open for the big sedan and I doubt the CL had the offset or lug bolt size of the sedans.

The factory 8 hole wheel you basically see on all W140 from beginning to 96 IIRC was called Alamak. The six hole that followed was called Gildun.

A primary motivation for original W140 wheels is that the early ones (perhaps that later too) were forged, and lighter in weight, and stronger.

The ride quality with original wheels is always the best IMO, regardless of whether they're fashionable or not.

I would rather keep the OEM 16" that have those from the W220. I agree with you; best to get them replaced asap
Do you know the length of the OE lug bolts on the 93? Since the offset on my w220 wheels is different, I don’t want to get in a snag or have the bolts passed through the back of the rotor.

Team,
I know we have beat this to death but.... I don't want to spend thousands of dollars without getting some expert feedback from forum members.

I found a set of wheel I would love on my 1998 s600. The specs are as follows:

Wheel Diameter: 18inch
Wheel Size: 18x8.5 Front & 18x9.5 Rear
Finish: HYPER SILVER MACHINED LIP
Wheel Offset: +25mm Front & +25mm Rear
Bolt Pattern: 5x112
Wheel Bore: 66.6

I don't think they will work. Any thoughts? Recommendation on tire sizes?

Thanks!

Hi Gents,
I'm in the midst of having a set of Lowenhart LVR's redone. The fellow who is redoing them is having a hard time finding new inner barrels for the front's. Might have to go with a 7" inner barrel which would spec the front's out to 9-1/2 wide with an offset of 42. Anyone running something similar on their car?
