Monoblock Aero II

The following are the complete specs in case anyone is looking to do the same. I went non-staggered (I already have staggered on my W221) & as you would expect there are no clearance or fitment issues. The ride is still excellent and the handling is improved over my previous stock configuration. There's no extra road noise or harshness and the car feels more responsive and lighter afoot. As for looks, this is arguably the best wheel style to compliment Bruno Sacco's design. I wish I had done this a long time ago.

The wheels;
Monoblock Aero II's, part #14040101028, size 8.5Jx18H2 ET47
I kept scanning eBay and finally found a beautiful set from Georgia that had been professionally reconditioned, great price too @ $1,400.

Lug bolts;
My car had W220 stock wheels with extended head wheel bolts. These bolts will work with the Monoblock, but you look like a trucker with spikes, so get some new hardware. I recommend ordering from Phil @ www.OtisincLA.com. Call him and instead of 20, he will sell you 16 dacromet coated ball seat, German made, 14 x 1.5 x 45 (diameter x thread x shank) #20-4302-B. Crime isn't an issue until it is, so I purchased one set of (4) RAD locks, 22-2304-B. Total price for everything was $123.99. The RAD bolts and lock kit seemed to be of high quality. If you really want to spend some money Phil has some titanium bolts that can make both your car and your wallet lighter.

Center caps;
I went with the the chrome highlighted ones, OEM only of course.

Tires;
I buy nothing but Michelin, personal preference. So I fitted Pilot Sport A/S 3 Plus, size 255/45/18's.

Torque:
Per the manual, 110 ft/lbs (make your installer do it by hand).

TADA!

Got the 3 pieces back from powedercoating, assembled, and picked out tires.

They're starform Type D, 17x8/17x9, both et 24. I picked Michelin pilot sports A/S 3+, I didn't want tire quality to even be a question (plus the fronts had a load rating of 97, was pretty happy with that)

One last thing... 17's ride so much better than 19's... Sidewall cushion is a very underrated thing. Largest I would go in the future is an 18".

Great car!

Wow on the momoblock et! How's the clearance? I much prefer the 18's! I have 17's and don't feel they fill the hole well.

Those star forms look nice though! So the width really helps them out in my eyes. They look like a factory option and I like that.

I'm running 18's as well on 50's and find it to be the largest rim and lowest profile I would go. The 17's are 55 profile and have a more narrow tread for snow and ice traction.

BMW wheels now fit

Not sure if this info was already posted but I bought some takeoff
M5 wheels from a 2018 and was told that BMW changed bolt pattern and that these
will not retro to earlier models.
But they fit great on W140
I also have a set on my CL55
if you are wondering why anyone would do this,you can find them cheap because they don't
fit that many bimmers.
The m5 tires are goodyear made in Germany list price over 600 each
I plan on running them on my S600
I had the M5 set on my CL for a year and the difference was astounding after replacing my old
and kind of banged up AMG wheels. The ride was so smooth with brand new wheels and tires.

Definetly Lorinsers but i dont know the exact model name

Look like knock off Lorisnsers to me. I think they are one of the one million no-name aftermarketers at the time.

A few weeks ago I bought new tires for my '94 S500 coupe. They were Michelin Sport AS 3+ and I didn't like them one bit!! Seemed to ride very hard so I replaced them with Michelin Primacy MXM4 today. Size: 245/45-18. Highly recommend these tires vs the Sports.

If you're interested in the DETAILS of the sizes, the new lug bolts, how-to-compute speedometer changes (you shouldn't do that!), check out the link here This web page details my initial purchase of a larger wheel and tire from the stock wheels/tires (235/60-16) done in 2007.

The wheels and tires are detailed and the problems that I had. It is interesting reading esp if somebody is thinking about going from a 'stock' wheel to a custom size. Lots of things you need to know. Even the problem with the correct lug bolts is detailed. Just as important is the speedometer calibration which is also shown. :)
