Hoping someone can point me to a photo I just saw. New here in the w140 world… in recent reading, somewhere I came upon a 90’s picture where there was a “business man” type, in the rear of his w140, with a full computer terminal attached to or instead of the passenger front seat. The picture was of this guy working from his car, I guess to show how connected he was in his fancy w140. Anyone recall what I just saw? Can’t find the photo again for whatever reason…. Thanks!

new to me S420 1998

hi
picked this up in November 2021 and i have fallen head over heels.

picture is from a video i made out on floodplain near Hay in NSW. something about this car screamed Qantas ad to me. if i can post video here pls give me a hint in that regard.

it rides great and for some reason it just does the job on highway. compared to my old golf R it is "slow" except that off the line this thing seems almost slung forward such that i think it could beat a veyron off the line. a good design if u ask me and far more usable to me than the 5 sec 100km time on the R.

seats of course are mental even in this 24 year old car. big and soft and firm and supportive and all adjustments still work.

297000 km. i think quite a bit has been done to it over that time (harness etc) but i must admit i know less than probably thought i did when i read the carsales ad.

everything was spot on when i bought it except maybe one of the pumps is breathing its last since the boot fob open takes like ten seconds to execute and soft close seems to have gone to heck. also compressor clutch has started screaming. ce la vie!

it has alot of presence and is so easy to drive. i bought it with some horrid long wearing tyre on it and they felt treacherous in wet so i got michelin's (some weird name starts with P). they are like velvet and totally transformed wet grip and comfort in both wet and dry as well as being quieter.

it only beeps based on proximity sensors and lights being left on. i like that. i do not need high pitched whining/beeping attached to every car activity. the brakes are amazing.

15 grand which is possibly crazy but it was running great and seemed very well taken care of and i just liked it from the off really. plus the w140 has a good rep and if you like these looks you like them and that's that. and i like them. i think i might be even keener for earlier models but i'm not on top of that yet.

the way it closes out the rev range is savage (say from 4 to 6 thousand rpm in second and third). most of the time it really is waft central though.
