Ooh, I am oozing with envy

Afaik, the layout looks just like one of the w140 interiors available in Europe(I think it was ScrapingScrap(?) who had an S320(?) interior like that)

ps: By layout, I mean the seats. Though alot of the stuff in the interior is reminisce of the w140. I wonder why...

It's really not that different, you will know the difference when you drive one and feel the road texture, a lot, I drove one before I started looking a W140s, an E430, I wasn't impressed with the ride or the noise, but still a good car.

The only thing that is better is the post 2000 steering wheel and electronic key.

sorry, I have both W210(2002) & W140(1996) I like W140 better constructed and very classy. W210 steering wheel is cool, but it is painted while the w140 is casted in the color it is. Both of my cars are the same interior color as post #2. I only have w210 because it's a wagon; consequently, W140 is not available in a wagon.

I got into a W210 today and I wowed... It's a shame isn’t it? It has a way better interior design then the W140. :(

you will be all alone with that opinion. as every member in this section and every magazine writeup about the W140 will disagree with you on that point

W140 Comparable interior--not really

I have to say that I prefer the W140 interior. Although the appearance is similar it just seems more substantial than the W210.

But it is probably all in the mind anyway.:):)

That's a lustrious interior, you right, the W140 looks strong and I noticed the W140 has a one piece center console unlike the 210.

Minus my current steering wheel cover, I love my interior, I feel like I'm in a lounge surrounded by wood and fine thick leather!

My W140 interior is far superior in all respects to the later W220 S Class.
I drive the W220 for work and find it much smaller and more like a "Normal" car than my own W140.
You know what is interesting? Is that the W220 as far as interior dimensions go is actually bigger inside. What I think it is is a combination of things like the centre console and the sloping roof. When I've driven them in the past I felt more like I was cocooned inside the car more than my W140.

It is indeed strange as the W220 is a LWB car and it still feels more like my 'C' class than my 'S' class, Its funny but even the bonnet badge looks to be closer to me than on my 'S', but i am sure the bonnets are the same length???

I think it maybe the overall feel of the car that makes you feel as though you are cramped into a smaller space.(it is definately lower down as i have parked them side by side) The W221 however is back to the "real" 'S' class proportions.

Also it is said that the 'E' class has as much interior space as the 'S', and i think even the 'B' class claims to have 'S' class room, i feel that is total rubbish there is no way either the 'E' or 'B' has anything like the same space as i do in my 'S'
Maybe some clever mathematician playing with numbers to make them show what they want, but not true!!!!

Ditto...agree with that statement.

W140 dash is a lot more stately than the W210. Straight lines vs curve lines. When ever I drive my W140 it gives me the feeling of real stately class. W210 dash is nice..but far from stately...

Maybe because also that the W140 has been used in a lot of movies where it is used as a presidential car or for some big shot somewhere. We have seen all those films where the president of some country getting out of a W140....that image just works.

Now whats this supposed to mean? "Way better interior" according to who? You? Are you an expert on the subject?

Two different segments for different purposes built in totally different timelines.

This thread is about a month old, but I would like to post my remarks as I tried both in my search for a MB but ended up owning a w124 instead (irrelevant I know).

The W140 is the last over engineered MB (dunno about the R129 and it is not included in the comparison anyway) and it only makes sense to my remarks as they state that the dimensions in both are close but over engineering led to having better quality and heavier and thicker materials and body parts (this means in both interior and exterior) for the W140 thus less space inside, bigger size from the outside and heavier overall weight. This means later not over engineered models are the opposite; more space, smaller size and less weight. I'm not saying that the W210 is of an inferior quality, I'm only saying that thicker quality parts typically have more quality than thinner quality parts, live longer and feel better (opinion plays a roll here, but I said that as a result of thinking objectively).

Now the real "it's a matter of opinion and taste" things start. To me, I prefer the W140 and I think it looks better and more aggressive. I like cars with more space, but the less space in the W140 is already big and more than enough for me. Truthfully, models after W140 and W124 do not give me the feeling of MB and feel somehow like any other car. I'd choose Lexus LS over post W140 S-Class.
