Are the yellow fogs standard?
in the US, 1992 through 1994 models, YES.

you can take the headlight lens off, and remove the yellow cup though.
It looks very nice. I prefer that look. I used to have a 86 300e with that type of headlights. The face lift w140 has the fog lights right under the headlights which in my opinion doesn't look that nice when on.
bayhas is correct, there's a small yellow glass cup inside the lamp that's clipped to the bulb holder. I'm not sure about the W140 lamps but earlier W126 and W124 the cups were obscured on the front chrome plating effectively blocking direct light. The cups are removable if you want clear light but I don't know whether the lens is designed to bend direct light from the fog.

I will be installing the "French" yellow H4's at some point just to be different. I've run them, or at least one of them, in other cars I have without the police getting too upset, then again in Iowa there's really no clear definition of what "white" means in vehicle lighting. And even when I've asked law enforcement people about it they don't have a good answer, unlike some states which have a strict interpretation of what you can or can't have for headlights.

Thanks for the clarification. I am not familiar with the W140.
As an aside, the yellow fogs are extremely rare in the W126 sedan Euro lights.
Also the little SEC fogs.
A W126 member paid $500 for the 2 fogs, only to find out the reflectors were sprayed by an ebay scammer.
Cheers

I agree on how the yellows look good on 126 and 123s, but somehow looks off on the 140. Is it bec the reflector isnt round?

We must have bought things from the same seller, I've been there before as well. For some reason some sellers think no one will notice a silver spray paint vs. plating.

The yellow in the picture, isn't that the high beam and not where the fog lights are?

No, pre facelift US models have the fogs there...
