Hi,

Drivers side rear door is locked, I can not open it. I have tried prying the lock button up to no avail.

On the passengers side rear door, I can lift the lock button and open that door, no problem.

It has been suggested to me that the rear doors unlock via vacuum after the drivers door is opened with the key, is this true or B/S.

Seems to me it would be electrical/mechanical in nature.

Any suggestion or directions for fixing this issue?

The car is new for me to work on,I DL'ed the owners manuel from another thread and learned about how the locks worked, (central lock switch on center console) etc ..

I will be a DIY'er with your help, and any help is appreciated.
I will try delete this same question from General MB discussion forum.

Thx,
james

okay when you unlock it with the remote all doors are suppose to open, with the key only the door that has the key hole is opened when you use the key.

do you hear air from that door when you lock unlock it?

I haven't yet listened for an air leak. By "unlock it" I assume you are referring to remote unlocking. I have been using the key to unlock, so I will check that out and report back after I fix the remote. Only the D/S rear won't open manually, pax side is ok.

I am waiting for store to open to buy a battery for the remote. Car has been sitting in my carport almost a year. I just used the key to open the drivers and pax side, never tried to open the rear doors before. The car needs several items attended to before I will drive it any distance. A Groaning, leaking PS pump, noisy water pump and other issues.

My project to make it a DD is underway, I have a MB learning curve ahead of me and am actually looking forward to it.

thx,
james

also you might need to re-sync your remote. that one is simple, you put the key into position two and hold the button for like 5secs and then its programed. only the front two doors can open manually the rest are suppose to be with central locking pump.

Bayhas posted owners manuals (PFD) on his site, bayhas.com - /w140manu/

So I read the manual :) sync-ing the remote is covered in english, and is just what you said.

I changed the batteries in the remote, now the red light functions. Previous owner had no clue about this and only used the key. Now to drive 30 miles to the car and try it out. I'll let you know what happens.

Any knowledge that a "slim-jim" will work on this door if all else fails?

thx,
james

Not sure this is true. Maybe yours is functioning like this, but my 140 (as well as every other MBs that i have owned that had a traditional key) locks and unlocks all doors when the key is used, same as when the remote is used.

I had the same problem with my W140 last week after a storm here in California. Here is what I did and it worked: I pulled the door handle from the inside then used my FOB remote to lock and then unlock the doors, while the handle is still pulled. Then I let the handle go. Next, I pulled the handle again and the door opened. The doors now open and close from both inside and outside the car.
