Okay so I searched far and wide and I need the expertise guidance of the W140 community. I am despite my sincerest efforts, unable to locate a part number for the 90 liter fuel tank to use in order to has a kuhlbox (small fridge) mounted in rear. It is also known as the "ski sack" package. Does any one know this or have a VIN they can give me to run to find it out? Thanks

TANK KRAFTSTOFFBEHÄLTER 1404701701

link ebay germany:

you need several more parts, the fuel tank venting is very different, its outside of the tank rather than inside, due to its two tops. MB germany still has all the part you need in stock. also, the "skisack" is a plastic tube made of several parts, with one flap in the passenger compartment, one in the trunk.

retrofitting skisack ( among other options!)

empty space for fuel tank, with part of skisack mount

inside: flap

No kidding! Wow people out here REALLY know what they are talking about! The pictures are amazing! I cant thank you enough Berlin420! Just one question about the venting - how does it actually "vent" inside - is there like a tube or something I'd need to get? Also I notice the part number is from a 1993 W140 - is the tank part number going to be the same for a 1999 S600 ???

venting

Fuel tanks generally need to be vented, because when fuel gets in, air has to get out, and vice versa, without having fuel fumes inside the car. there are some lines going out of the tank and through an active charcoal filter, and they end in the left rear wheelhouse, behind the plastic cover. They differ a lot between the two versions of the tank. There is an original manual form Mercedes-benz for retrofitting the 90l-tank and which parts you need... I just recently did it, bought a used tank, and new venting pipes and stuff from the dealer ( here in germany). anyone need the manual, send private mail..
